I have only used new pipe with sponsor block I haven't noticed that many issues other than background play on Android getting confused. What issues were you having?

What exactly is sponsorblock? Is it like NewPipe but skips ads in videos?
Skips embedded sponsors and other things from crowd sourced segments.
Can NewPipe do something similar? Sorry I'm a bit confused what the two have to do with each other
There is a fork of NewPipe which includes Sponsorblock integration. It's maintained by different people because the main dev of the official NewPipe wanted to keep it simple.
Sponsorblock can be used in various addons. They're talking about the newpipe that has sponsorblock built in vs the stock one.

Happy to help. If you're on android you can get YouTube ReVanced to block ads and get Sponsorblock integration in something like the official YouTube app too.
Don't forget LibreTube, one of the best.
Can you upload your subscription list to ReVanced like you can with NewPipe and Invidious?
You sign in with your actual account, so everything is being kept in sync automatically. Even watch history.
NewPipe devs have this dumb idea that adding SponsorBlock support is unethical even though there is no way for companies to tell their ads are being skipped and, more importantly, NewPipe views doesn't even count and they already make that software.
The official NewPipe just had the 0.26 release, which the Sponsorblock-version hasn't been rebased on yet.
So, yeah, if you're already using the 0.26 version, you might just have to wait a week or two for similar improvements to land in the fork.
If this is the right Github, the sponsorblock fork has been archived as of Dec 29th. Does that mean the project is finished/on pause?
Hmm, that is the repo linked from F-Droid, yes.
The README does say "Development has stopped" and they put that text into there last week.
They also linked to their discussion of "Tubular", which seems like an idea for an enhanced NewPipe x Sponsorblock. An idea from a year ago, but I guess, if they refer to it now, that's planned.
I could imagine that they decided to wait where the NewPipe rewrite is going and then implement Tubular on top, so it may be paused in that sense.
There appear to be multiple forks of NewPipe x Sponsorblock which have successfully updated on top of NewPipe 0.26.1, but yeah, no idea if any of these have aspirations to be the official repository where IzzyOnDroid pulls from...
