It's riffing on the old stereotype that kids these days don't follow their heritage. In the comic the youth is following tradition of getting shit faced on new years.

To heave can also mean to vomit.

Because of the title I also thought of the Neil Young song "Old Man" which has some lyrics that seem sort of appropriate to the theme as well:
