  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve Overlander
  • Blade: Pro Edge Platinum [6]
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Nightcap - Soap
  • Post Shave: Wholly Kaw - Nightcap - Aftershave

Good shave. Warm notes in this scent help me on a cold day.

Tabac Tuesday

  • Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
  • Razor: Ralf Aust 5/8" full hollow, Spanish tip, carbon steel
  • Razor: Ralf Aust 5/8" full hollow, Spanish tip, stainless steel
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original
  • Aftershave: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original
  • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

The twin Ralf Austs still feel indistinguishable and I can't tell them apart without weighing them.

The replacement knot for my Tabac brush is still in the mail but has reached the European mainland, so this is is hopefully the last Tabac Tuesday without it.

Mine are as well. They feel a bit different on the stones to me, but that's okay, the materials are different. I'm sensitive to this due to the large variety of knife steels I've encountered. If I give each razor the attention it requires to get a proper edge, though, I seem to get the same performance.

I haven't graduated to honing them yet. I should use them more often to justify a refresh. The whole point of this exercise was to push the blades until I fell a difference, and I've been slacking off 😅

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Zingari Zischtig!

You know, I now have a satisfying collection of soaps, splashes, razors and brushes, and my fragrance collection is small but just fine for me. My technique has reached the point of diminishing returns, and I'm now using talc. Really, from here on out it's just about the alliteration.

Tuesday, January 9, 2024 - rainy day shave

  • Prep: hot shower
  • Brush: Yaqi 24mm Naples Tuxedo Knot (synthetic)
  • Razor: Edwin Jagger DE 89L
  • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
  • Lather: Zingari Man - The Watchman - Sego Shaving Soap
  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Watchman - After Shave Balm

Rainy day shave means I'm using The Watchman. Unfortunately I'm just about done with this soap, there's maybe one shave left. But on the plus side that means it's time to buy more soap!

  • Brush: Zenith 508A XL/Bristle (B35) (MOAR BOAR) 31mm
  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
  • Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux (1)
  • Lather: Maurer & Wirtz - Tabac - Soap
  • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman Special Reserve - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Liniment

Nice stuff. Rapira is a pretty mild blade which I tend to like. Decent shave with it, but not one of my favorites.

SOTD 09.01.2024

  • Prep: warm water
  • Razor: Greencult GC 2.0 II plate
  • Blade: Voskhod
  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Neon Sun
  • Post Shave: Thayer's Aloe Vera toner; Natura Siberica ASB gel
  • Fragrance: Obvious - Un Oud EdP sample

Just a 1-pass head shave after trying out my new electric toothbrush and teeth bleaching/whitening set. Comfortable shave, just one tiny little weeper that I didn't even notice until after the shave (thankfully alum sticks exist).

Neon Sun is a great scent reminding me of warmer days, greatly appreciated in the current cold front we're having over here. It kinda feels weird to list my fragrance today, as I generally shave in the evening/at night and apply perfume in the morning. However, it's also seemingly not a compliment getter. It smells very interesting to me and is actually described as a very sensual scent by some fragrance forums on the net, but it still hasn't got the wow factor I'm looking for. But the good thing is that I got 3 new 2 ml samples today, among them the insanely expensive Amouage Interlude Man. Let's see how these will fare.

First day back in nursing school and it was honestly bullshit. First block was self study due to a sick teacher, second one was awful teaching, and then we finally started learning a little bit after lunch break. Can't say that tomorrow looks way better, but at least I see some of my nice classmates again.
