I'm moving to north Colorado soon, up near Fort Collins area, and I'm looking to get set up with high speed Internet. Anyone have any familiarity with Xfinity? They're offering speeds that work for me, but I'm hoping to get a feel for how consistent they are with service and how easy it is to get issues resolved.

Edit: Went with Quantum Fiber, they just came and installed today. Very happy so far!

Unless there are CO specific rules against it, expect your bill to increase by 5% a year unless you call them and complain and ask to reverse it

Ah yikes, that's good to know, thanks!

If you came to Longmont you could get the best service in the country... Gigabit fiber internet directly into the home for $75/month or less, rapid response to service calls, and customer service that doesn't try to get you off the phone as fast as possible. But it sounds like you're going to be further North (although the commute to Ft. Collins isn't terrible)...

There seems to be a new company in the area called Quantum. I have no idea who they are but they've been spamming my phone which raises some concerns. You might check in Loveland though, I know they were discussing city-owned fiber a few years ago, but I'm not sure if that ever went through?

Xfinity... yeah the only thing worse than them would be to get service through the phone company. You can get some decent service from them if you pay for a business connection, but at best you might expect half the speed for twice the price, and Xfinity requires multi-year contacts for service. Definitely shop around before you sign anything with them, if they're pushing you to sign then it probably means there's something better in the area.

The worst problem you'll find is if you move into an apartment complex, or some condos. The building owners have a habit of signing deals with Comcast that are terrible for customers (but very lucrative for the building owner) and prevent you from getting better service elsewhere.

We'll actually be in Berthoud, I was just trying to generalize. What service is that fiber option you were talking about, that sounds perfect! We're not too far away from Longmont, maybe they'll service us there.

Unfortunately it won't be available to you there. The providers have managed to screw things over and it was through heavy litigation that Longmont (and now others) have been able to start building their own internet services, however there is still a clause in place blocking us from building out beyond city limits -- unless that has changed and I missed the news. I don't think I've heard of ANY plans in Berthoud to build out a reliable service, so you may unfortunately be stuck with Xfinity.

If you do happen to move a bit further South, our fiber service goes under the name NextLight.

I checked and Quantum is offered there too, I might go with that instead since Xfinity sounds like it's absolutely horrible. We're already under contract in Berthoud, we put in a couple offers in Longmont proper but got outbid, the market there is popping!

There market everywhere around here is insane. If you don't put a bid on a house sight-unseen within a couple hours the house will be gone!

Please check into Quantum, they just have a spammy feeling to me already but maybe they're just being overly-aggressive about advertising in a new area. I don't actually know anything about them and can't make any recommendations.
