FuckCars

A community for discussions of how cars have ruined many cities across the globe, as well as alternatives to them.

Cars are deeply tied to capitalism, and in resisting capitalism, it is worthwhile to reconsider personal automobiles place in transportation.

Rules: (wip: message me if I’m missing something)

Be nice to people: This is fuck cars, not fuck drivers. Yes some drivers are car-brained maniacs, no that doesn’t mean they’re evil (usually).

No hate or bigotry: No racism, homophobia, sexism, terfs, ableism, etc. Not the move generally. Cars have already destroyed enough marginalised communities, no need for us to help them.

No traffic violence: Do not post depictions of traffic violence. NSFW or NSFL posts are not allowed. Gawking at crashes is not allowed. Be respectful to people who are a victim of traffic violence or otherwise traumatized by it. News articles about crashes and statistics about traffic violence are allowed. Glorifying traffic violence will get you banned.

No misinformation: Masks and vaccines save lives during a pandemic, climate change is real and anthropogenic - and denial of these and other established facts will get you banned. False or highly speculative titles will get your post deleted.

No harassment: Posts that (may) cause harassment, dogpiling or brigading, intentionally or not, will be removed. Please do not post screenshots containing uncensored usernames. Actual harassment, dogpiling or brigading is a bannable offence.

Please report posts and comments that violate our rules.

They are choosing to pay parents $300 each instead of just paying bus drivers better? Absolute nonsense

holy fuck how many bus drivers could you hire if you raised wages by that much instead.

The district currently has about 210 bus drivers and is able to use 13 additional approved contracting companies to supplement their bus service.

The school district has about 105 vacancies and is actively hiring through its website.

Students who live more than one to one-and-a-half miles from their school, as well as students on education plans that have curb-to-curb transportation service required, are eligible for the transportation plan.

Approximately 13,000 families are currently enrolled in the plan. Families have until the end of September to apply for this program.

So, it's millions.
But it does seem like this is for "difficult to bus" students.

Okay hear me out, what if this was paid on a per child basis, and you buy a bigger car like a minivan perhaps so you can get more kids into it and drive them all to school all at once? With the added bonus that you're not contributing as much to traffic too

Damnit I read that backwards. I was like 300/month not to drive? Fantastic!

Ugh, now I'm sad.

Wow. In Germany, it's illegal to drive your kids to school.

[–] RedWizard@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's because Germany doesn't have freedom. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Nobody has and nobody lives there because all transport is banned including walking

[–] 201dberg@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 year ago

Just fucking pay bus drivers.

My old high school just sold all their buses, and it seems the bus pass they gave out is temporary.

its 3 bucks a ride here lol

Have fun with the traffic

[–] reazonozaer@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 1 year ago

Sure the planet is heating up faster, but at least we could spend less money on education...

As an aside I read this as carbonated instead of carbrained and thought this was going to be about something else.

Haha, fuck Philly transport and education leaders are dumb as shit.

Let's add buses to reduce traffic. Let's pay parents to reduce driver needs. Let's run around in circles.
