I'm going completely crazy trying to find games that are just games and not cheap clones of other money making machines.

I think Don't Starve has no in app purchases. Also see open source games like Endless Sky, Shattered Pixel Dungeon, and Mindustry.

I play all of those except endless sky which I'm looking up now.

Can't get into don't starve.

Edit: I don't see endless sky

Ah, it seems the only place to get it is on F-droid, the open source app "store".

The Endless Sky game is made for PC, but there's a fork that maintains compatibility with android. If you have F-droid, search for it there. If not, you can download the APK file from the F-droid page for Endless Sky.

If this is your first time installing something that isn't on Google Play, then your phone is going to fight back. But it generally should tell you what you need to do before you can install apps from outside the Play app store.

Ooooooooooohhhhh! I've heard the name a dozen times and never knew what it was! Thanks!

I've installed from other sources before and even had grapheneOS at one point.

!cheapgames@lemm.ee maybe? Also !patientgamers@sh.itjust.works
!patientgamers@lemmy.ml
!patientgamers@lemmy.world
...
Oooo, and this one:
!pure_mobile_gaming@lemmy.world

Thanks for asking this. r/frugalgamers and r/patientgamers were two I don't think I had found anything like an equal for previously. Stopped searching to replace everything I had followed over there back in August...

Awww yes! That last one is the one!

Somehow I'm subscribed already but forgot it I guess.

Edit: Ooohhh. It's because my post there is one of only 2 posts there.

Edit 2: OH MY GOD, I MADE THAT COMMUNITY. WHAT THE FREAKY MANDELA FUCK IS WRONG WITH MY MEMORY!?!??

[-] Paragone@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

Zillions of other things crowded-it-out from your awareness, is all..

I defy you to count all the things you've had to remember, or think-on, since you created that community, Hoomin..

As one gets older, it happens more: more things-in-the-bin, harder-to-find-a-particular-thing.

Consider, though, that now your community has got other people interested, and it wasn't done through shilling, but through accidental-forgetfulness.

Karma provides lessons, we only have to be honest-enough to earn their essence, you know?

It's a source of intending frustration for me that I can't keep an index of all the absurd amount of things I know. Stuff comes up and I have something specific and relevant to say. Tell me to say a joke or something interesting I know though and my mind is just totally blank.

It's probably easier to believe I'm just plugging that sub. 🤣

How about the OPUS series? It's an original game. I've not played the game, but I loved the demo of the first series.

[-] Mango@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago
[-] velox_vulnus@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

Yes. That's the second series in the game. They're not related to each other, btw. I'm not sure if order matters here.

Here's all the game in order of launch date:

  • The Day We Found Earth
  • Rocket of Whispers
  • Rocket of Whispers: Prologue
  • Echo of Starsong
  • Prism Peak (TBA)

I'll give these a look.

I'm unrelated news, the salute emoji seems gone!

Monument valley is good.

I've been really enjoying Rogue Adventure lately, there's ads but no aggressive monetization. Anything by Kairosoft. Battle Chasers: Nightwar, The Viridian Obelisk. Necromerger has monetization and dollar signs but isn't in your face with it. Honkai Star Rail. Dungeon Defense. Dicey Dungeons. Soda Dungeon 1 and 2. The Burnable Garbage Day. Vampire Survivors. Stardew Valley. OpenTyrian.

[-] TheBest@midwest.social 1 points 4 months ago

Anything by Kairosoft needs more love. Each game is a MININUM 10-20 hour blackhole of my time. Love them so much.

[-] Mango@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

I've played battle chasers, vampire survivors, stardew valley, and dicey dungeons. Definitely good stuff.

I should have also mentioned the Octopath Traveller series - a HD-2D successor to Final Fantasy 1-6, by Square Enix. They're also available on mobile. If you want a hardcore FF-2 successor, then Romancing Saga is for you, also by Square Enix. Then there's a Final Fantasy Adventure successor, aka the Mana Series - I love the Sword of Mana, which is the first game in the series - but unfortunately, that isn't available on mobile, also on mobile phone. And obviously, the HD port of original Final Fantasy 1-6, also available, but I don't think you'll enjoy them that much.
