The Penultimate Day Of Weckoning is upon us

  • Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
  • Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
  • Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet (36)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Oceana
  • Post Shave: Ralon – Original
  • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man

Very nice shave this morning. I was comfortable already with the Weck and this ultra-high backbone brush before AA, but there's something special about using a setup repeatedly for a month. This was my 301st shave with an open blade since opening this can of worms by borrowing u/VisceralWatch's Feather AC shavette for Lather Games 2022, and my 55th shave with this particular Weck, but now, for lack of a better term, I feel expertise in every move. The same goes for this brush (80th use today). I just know I'll have a great lather and a great shave before I even start.

All that being said, I'm chomping at the bit take my new-to-me Fili 14 for a spin through my sample pile (Mount Smushmore) next month.

I'm still a bit overwhelmed by yesterday's surprise gift and feeling blessed 😊️

You deserve the gift!

And thanks for letting me catch up. I'm at 311 open blade shaves today. On to Straightember!

Thanks! That's kind of you to say!

And thanks for letting me catch up.

And this year I won't overtake you again during BBS November with you participating 😀

I'm traveling. I used @sgrdddy@sub.wetshaving.social's Slurry Lather™ for a quick shave. I used slightly less water to make less mess, and that was just fine. A better-than DFS shave is my result.

Two months ago, I thought that this place would be the home of the GUTL™, but it's become the home of the Slurry Lather™ 🤷‍♂️

Hah! Yeah. Go figure :)

AA Day 30! Did a 3 pass shave. BBS, no irritation. Nice and smooth. One more shave before #RemoteLearningFriday. (would be using a Gem Jr, but USPS decided to send it to MA for no reason)

August 30, 2023

  • Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
  • Brush: Zenith 506U XS Horse 🐎
  • Razor: Greencult GC 2.0 II
  • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (29)
  • Lather: Abbate y La Mantia Marduk
  • Post Shave: Mennen Le Grand Large
  • Post Shave: Nivea After Shave Balm

I wasn't quite concentrated enough, and got myself a few weepers on the neck - the GreenCult is not (yet?) an autopilot razor for me.

Have a good night!

That razor seems interesting!

䷀ General Notes

Let's do one of my standard bowl lathers.

䷀ Razor and Blade Notes

(Timeless - Stainless Steel .68 - Open Comb ::: Gillette - Nacet - M ‹528 uses›)

Same: First pass has some tugginess to it. But no irritation that lasts longer than a little tuggy stroke. Latter passes feel fine and give a reasonably close shave. 3 quick passes.

Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)

䷀ Soap Notes

(Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - White Label)

I just love all the aspects of this scent!

Scent Strength: 6/10, nicely present during shaving.

Lather... Working up a lather for me in my typical bowl-lathering fashion, which I don't think I've done this month.

Lather was pretty nice for this base. Not luxurious, and not excessively slick, but did the job fairly well.

Hydration: Perfect (for me)

  • 4 sec load with a Lightly-Wet brush
  • 24 ml (4.9 tsp) added to build the lather
  • = 6 passes of lather

Bowl: Roger Quintero 3D Printed Bowl
I use the XL version of this bowl.

䷀ Brush Notes

(Zenith - r/wetshaving MOAR BOAR B35/508A XL ‹53 uses›)

Same: Comfortable soft tips that do flex some, but that are supported by a base with strong backbone. As with all young boars, I look forward to the tips splitting with more uses and getting softer with use. I am generally using a hair dryer to gently treat the tips and age them just a bit faster than normal.

Since today was about a more typical bowl lather for me, I sure felt the brush's backbone more, since I spent more time in splay!

During the Shave Feel:
  Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable
  Neck: Felt blade but comfortable
After the Shave Closeness:
  Cheeks: Close Shave
Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave)
