MegaChristians! Roll out!!

[–] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 58 points 7 months ago (1 children)

John MacArthur, an influential right-wing megachurch pastor and author, told an audience at his church last week that Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. was “not a Christian at all.” MacArthur described the pastor and civil rights icon as “a nonbeliever who misrepresented everything about Christ and the gospel.”

Oh look, projection from a racist piece of shit.

What a wonderful, heartfelt way to close out Black History Month, eh?

Accusations of improper response to domestic abuse

In March 2022, The Roys Report published an investigation implicating Grace Community Church and John F. MacArthur. [51]Several women victims of domestic violence were reportedly asked to return to their husbands, under threat of excommunication. MacArthur associate pastor Carey Hardy allegedly told a victim to lead by example and “suffer for Jesus” by enduring her husband’s abuse. A church elder, Hohn Cho, allegedly urged MacArthur to reconsider the victim's request, who told him "forget it." The victim was humiliated twice, in May 2002 and August 2002, by MacArthur in front of the congregation for having finally divorced her husband. In 2005, the victim's husband was sentenced to 21 years in prison for aggravated child molestation, corporal injury to a child, and child abuse. After the publication of the affair by Christianity Today in February 2023, the pastoral council denounced “lies”. [52]

I was unaware these were Christ like qualities and actions. Wonder what Bible they use at that church.

Jesus was a brown socialist - if he turned up today most "Christians" would probably try to kill him again.

They are so close to declaring the N-word acceptable.

Did anyone see some of the shit Trump said at the "black Republicans" thing? First of all, Kimmel showed a shot of the audience, which was mostly white. And some of what Trump said...

He said he only saw black people in the audience, he couldn't see white people.

He told them that black was his favorite color.

He said he was "rapping" with them.

He said black people like him because he gets discriminated against just like them.

Honestly, he was so close to saying something like, "I don't even say the word n- these days, folks!"

"MacArthur signs statement declaring that Jesus hates people who don’t hate LGBTQs."

Growing up I was taught Jesus was about love, acceptance, peace, helping others, etc. All good traits worthy of promoting (whether in a religious or secular manner). One good thing about the internet is that it has shown me others to whom I would never be exposed, and just how terrible some can be. (And how great others can be as well.)

“These are not the droids you’re looking for…”, continued the propagandist preacher.
