Mammoth Monday March Madness edition, episode 1

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Papa Eld with Declaration Grooming B3 knot
  • Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
  • Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet
  • Lather: House of Mammoth — Almond Leather
  • Aftershave: Declaration Grooming — Fake Yellow Light
  • Fragrance: Imaginary Authors — A City On Fire

Almond Leather and Fake Yellow Light is one of my favourite leather combos. I often combine it with Gratiot League Square, but went with City on Fire instead. The smoke really works with this combination, even the slightly acrid burnt match note.

Weck++;
B3++;

Mar. 4, 2024

  • Razor: Karve Overlander
  • Blade: UK Tech Statum [1]
  • Lather: 345 - RKY MTN Tree Line - Soap
  • Post Shave: 345 - RKY MTN Tree Line - Aftershave

Good shave. Lots of snow to shovel today. These blades seem to be good I’ve had a number of good shaves with them in the past and today is no different.

Mar 4, 2024 - Macduffs Monday: Birth of the Cool

  • Brush: The Razor Company Cream Soda Acrylic 28mm Synthentic Knot
  • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24 #MMarch24
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE [4]
  • Lather: MacDuffs Soap Company/Pastuer Shaving - Birth of the Cool - Soap
  • Post Shave: Wholly Kaw - Entropy Man - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Maison Martin Margiela - Jazz Club - Eau de Parfum

Macduffs' base, once properly hydrated, produces a silky, smooth lather with a beautiful, glossy sheen.

Birth of the Cool is a scent I keep coming back to. It's partly inspired by Jazz Club, but IMO, with some of the rough edges smoothed out. Entropy Man overpowered BotC initially, but as it dried down, they worked really well together.

A good shave, and I wonder how many shaves are still in this soap. I guess around five, and I saw no real difference before and after today.

Have a good night!

Do you like the Barbarossa now?

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I don't know - it's a razor I feel safe with. It's still a bit uncomfortable to handle, and the blade could be longer, but it's not too bad. I clearly prefer it to my Soviet straight.

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I don't think I've seen your Soviet razor, I'm intrigued now 🙂

The Barbarossa is an interesting animal. Just feels like it should be a good idea, IMO

I'll make a photo later tonight of my rocket razor from the CCCP.

The Barbarossa is probably a good idea, I just need to get used to its size - it feels nothing in the hand like a regular straight, or even a shavette 🤷‍♂️

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Thanks!

Have you ever used a Kamisori? It has a similar edge length as a Barbarossa (albeit a very different geometry)

I have a kamisori style shavette, but I 've never tried the real thing 😂

Uh… joke, social experiment, malfunctioning bot: You decide!

Personally I’ve never tried shaving twice in one day… no, that’s not true, but I’ve never tried it twice-twice so I guess the first one has always been the best.
