Seems the Hot algorithm chucks in the occasional ancient post.

Could it be that some deep liked that post today, and that got picked up by the hot algorithm (got a new upvote) and then snowballed over here.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Honestly I do kind of like it! It's like unearthing a time capsule lol

[–] Contramuffin@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a known bug with the algorithm that causes old posts to pop up from time to time. Hope it gets fixed soon

[–] Carnelian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think I read that it’s related to old posts being copied to new instances

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

So someone on Lemmy.ml commented on it, causing the old thread to federate out to the instances created after it was posted?

[–] aronkvh@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago

lol I have no idea why it got popular now. Basically it was how Reddit handled this and then r/europe banned me permanently because I mentioned Lemmy. Tbh .ml wasn't the best place to join Lemmy in retrospect, I've moved to lemmy.kde.social

I was here for the Algo feed zombie thread revival let's go

[–] bleph@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If we comment enough, we could get this zombie thread stuck in the 'Active' feed

Never underestimate the power of shitposting

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

2 year old post that will be relevant forever.

[–] Flelk@lemmy.ml 16 points 3 years ago (1 children)

Same. I'm starting the transition in earnest as of today.

Any chance you are still around to tell everyone why you guys were so ready to leave reddit w years before the rest of us? πŸ˜‚

[–] Ktheone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dunno about him but for me, reddit already had gone worse after 2014

[–] Trapping5341@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thats fair. I didn't really even get into Reddit until 2012. So I probably never noticed plus I mostly browsed on Sync on my phone and never really dealt with the website itself which imo is where things really went down hill.

[–] Ktheone@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I can understand you, well we are over reddit as a whole now πŸ™‚

Bro was ahead of the curve.

I started transitioning when boost stopped

Well, this is odd.

Looks like OP posted this thread two years ago, so hard to say what their reason was. That said, I hadn’t heard about that with reddit yet. Thank you for sharing that article.

Spez is crazy if he thinks that move will bring back those who have left

[–] Chriszz@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

That is going to absolutely ruin the site even more lmao

You thought karma farming bots were bad? Wait until users start posting like them too

[–] anas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Oh huh, I didn’t expect them to be bleeding this much money lol
