Hi,
I'm replacing my Ryzen setup with something more power efficient, and most probably Intel for Quicksync, but the more research I do the more complex it seems.
I've tried a N5105 itx-board but while it handles Plex transcoding fine it's just too anemic for my other VM's/Dockers.
I guess most modern Intel CPU's will fill the requirement, but there's also the many different chipsets to consider. Energy usage of motherboards seems to be a big factor for a system that is idling most of the time, so something without much features and a good chipset. I've been looking at H410-based boards but are a bit hesitant since they appear to have limitations regarding PCIe-lanes and RAM-channels. The boards are cheap though which is a big plus.
I'll be using a PCIe x16 to 4 x m.2 adapter as a base for the storage, with two m.2 SATA controllers. I've read that if fill up the remaining two slots there might be issues with bifurcation, so I guess that's a parameter as well. It wouldn't hurt with a couple of extra PCIe x4 slots as well.
Anyone got insights in what might be a sweet spot here, that's capable, power efficient and not too expensive?
