You meet these kinda people in every industry.

We hired a Project Manager who apparently had 14 years at Microsoft. The guy could not in any way manage his way out of a bag. Wants resources, doesn't know what to do with them. Gets frustrated that designer's work, and doesn't know how to give feedback. Perpetually late and blames his staff he borrowed from other departments.

and yet so many idiots cannot spot the common denominator problem of the bossy prick. It is beyond frustrating how stupid normal people are at that. Very reminiacent of the saying, "if everyone you interact with is an asshole, you're the asshole".

Soooo many people fail to spot the asshole whether it's them or someone else.

That's kinda dismissive towards racial, sexual, and various other forms of discrimination people face at a work place. It is possible for everyone else to be an asshole when, say, you're the only black person, woman, disabled person, etc, and everyone thinks less of your work and capabilities independently of how you performed or contributed.

Obvious exceptions are obvious.

This is a minefield in small orgs, the "big name" hire. Lots of these folks are used to being a cog, where there are standardized inputs and outputs. They come to small org where everyone is expected to do 6 things "good enough" instead of 1 thing well, and they cant handle it. They want to do the one thing, not the 5 others. They bitch/moan/fight but that doesnt change the 5 things they arent doing that arent getting done. So the rest of the team gets to pick up that slack, or more likely doesnt, and the big name gets bad results.

Im not even blaming them exactly, but its frustrating to see managers dazzled by a name keep hiring people that do not or cannot work in small shops. Its a different type of job, even if its the same industry, and honestly some people can't hack it.

That sounds like a normal manager.

I love King of the hill for this kind of thing.
