This new trailer from Disney+ gives us a lot more to look forward to β€” and speculate about!

Looks like the RTD/Bad Wolf team aims to blow viewers' minds. I'm not going to spoil anything here, but go nuts in the comments πŸ₯³

[Edited the subject to correct the season number. This is season 1 of a new show (same continuity as the old show), not season 14 of the previously-new show which is now the less-old-but-not-entirely-new-Who.]

So according to the BBC and IMDb, this is Doctor Who 2023 S01. Doctor Who 2005 has ended.

Thetvdb still has it listed at S14, and that’s where my Plex server pull its metadata from, so I’ll be making an S14 poster. I’m not interested in this silly rebrand.

Same, unless if people release it as S01E## instead of S14E## in which case my sonarr will likely break, I shall curse loudly, and then give up and set up DW show #3 lmao

Edit: but hell If I'm gonna put the 60th special trilogy anywhere but the 2005 show. People wanting to list it as the first episodes of 'Who (2024)' are annoying the piss out of me lol.

You can set up sonar with rules to handle this, but it’s complicated

Yeah if I end up caring enough I'll do it. I'm a data hoarder so a lot of my shit is self curated and occasionally manual, having to take care of some extra episodes manually isn't gonna break my workflow too much when I'll be doing it anyway lol

You're right, it's season 1 not 14. As I said elsewhere, this was a first thing Saturday morning post, and I forgot in the excitement.

Does that imply then that this is a full reboot with none of the previous seasons' timelines?

[–] halm@leminal.space 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

No. It is a full continuation of all the Doctor who that has gone before. The choice to start at season 1 again is apparently mostly because the show will now be running on Disney+ as well, and some suit figured viewers on that platform might give it a pass if it were only season 14 forward that was available?

Also, Russell T Davies is back in the showrunner seat (as when the show was revived in 2005) and I'm sure it flatters his ego that they reset the season numbering for him each time 🀣

It's the same continuity, just a rebrand for the Disney+ release. The new doctor's season is funded by Disney, so it seems they didnt want new viewers to be intimidated by "series 14" and thus switched to "season 1" (problem is, Ncuti's first episode was the most recent Christmas special, which was not labeled as part of "season 1" last i checked)

So what I'm getting from this is we are going to see time timeline changes in real time

Yeah, it's as if RTD looked at Moffat's convoluted timestream plots, cracked his knuckles and said, "I'll show you timey wimey!"

funny to me that no one even pretends Chibnall is worth mentioning.

[–] halm@leminal.space 6 points 7 months ago

Except one Russell Davies:

Doctor Who's Chris Chibnall was the first call Russell T Davies made after return

I'm lucky and proud and honoured to be working with Steven Moffat, the great man... Steven was the second phone call I made, after getting the old job back. The first was Chris Chibnall, but he sent love and kisses and RAN! Off to write his new novel!

For my own part, when a dark figure was moving down a corridor toward the Doctor and Ruby, I could have sworn I heard "Mrs Dobson?" but on second viewing it was more likely "Is it a monster?"... πŸ˜„

Edit: yes, that was me not just mishearing a line but also getting the names Mrs Flood and Anita Dobson mixed up. It's still early morning here, go easy on me.
