I currently have an unRAID server set up and working in an old tower PC I reused. It's got four WD Red drives and is nearing capacity. I recently rebuilt my main computer in a mini-itx and now I want to scale down the size of my raid machine.
95% of my content is high-res photography in RAW and JPG. I've recently been reading about the Synology and their AI photo moments software which would allow me to easily search my 15+ years of photos from anywhere, and set up albums to share with clients.
My question is, can unRAID do anything like this relatively easily? Can I build a new machine with drives similar in size to a 4-6 bay Synology for under $1000 (including drives). I know the majority of people here are very deep into the unRAID ecosystem, but for someone who doesn't do much tinkering and prefers a straightforward plug & play solution, is switching to a Synology a decent idea?
