Stray, the hit Annapurna Interactive game starring a cat, is getting a “feature adaptation” from Annapurna Animation, according to a press release. Annapurna didn’t share much else about the movie — we still don’t know when it might come out or what it might look like — but if you were a fan of the game and looking for another way to experience the game’s universe, now you can look forward to this upcoming film.

In the press release, Annapurna also said that it plans to adapt more Annapurna Interactive titles in the future, though it didn’t specify which games might be turned into movies or shows.

I'm curious what the movie would contain that the game didn't. The game was very linear and almost played like a movie itself. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a cat movie! Just curious how it will differ from the game.

The cat will be voiced by Chris Pratt

“In the beginning, animated movies starring Chris Pratt were spaced by 24 weeks, then 12, then six, then every two weeks. The last one, with Garfield, was a week. In four days, we could be seeing new casting announcements every eight hours, until they’re coming every four minutes.”

😆 💀

The grey goo that aipocalypses us will be voiced by Chris Pratt

Annapurna Animation recently released Nimona, which is godly to look at.

Hopefully they will perform as well with this one.

Wait, I’m so out of the loop.

Nimona, like…the comic I used to read on Tumblr years ago? THAT Nimona????

[–] Aielman15@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Yep, it's on Netflix.

Development began at Blue Sky before it got shut down by Disney, and was passed to Annapurna.

There are a few changes from the comic, but it's overall very fun, and the graphics and animations are godly.

Yeah it was really good

I downloaded that movie on a whim for a long flight to Australia and it was surprisingly solid. I didn't know the source material and assumed it was a original concept. Annapurna's games are usually top tier so hopefully their movies will be as well.

Well that's a good sign. I really enjoyed that flick.

Good luck with audience recognition when “Strays” literally released on digital platforms today

Cool I can cry all over again

Annapurna? I love their games! Stray is awesome, I gotta back and finish it.

Do Journey next! That game is a fuckin trip, man. I'd love to see if they can transfer that magic to the big screen.

I second the vote for Journey next. My only concern is that most people probably wouldn't be into it because there would be zero dialog.

Maybe they can stick the landing this time. All they needed to do was show one shot of the pack of four cats reunited during the credits. The parallel theme between the pack of four stray cats and the crew of four robots called the outsiders was an essential part of the plot and then they just leave it hanging.

The four cats is the RPG coop sequel

What's with all these games being turned into movies.

At least this makes more sense than Vampire Survivors
