Just dumped out my small bin of GBA games.

GBA really had an attractive cartridge design; just the molding itself. Nice proportions.

Low key actually worth a small fortune. This is a great selection.

Man, the GBA had so many great RPGs on it, even if half of them were SNES rereleases. Also how did you get a copy of Mother 3, lol

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

The mother games are the only repros I've purchased, it's a crime that Nintendo didn't localize those for NA or EUR!

So it's just a cheap repro from eBay with an English patch. I have a flash cart too, which is probably the better way to go.

[-] Anders429@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I'm sure that copy of mother 3 is bootleg, right?

You know now that I think about it, I wonder how many M-rated games were released on the Game Boy/DS systems. I know some of the obvious ones would be id Software ports (like the Wolfenstein 3D seen in the picture) and the GTA games (both the GBA one from the mid 00s and Chinatown Wars from later), but other than those I can't imagine the list is a very large one, especially considering most of the people who would have been playing on those systems at the time would have been kids and teens.

Edit: after a quick google search, it looks like there were a grand total of 9 M-rated GBA games released, most of them being not very good ports of more popular console/PC games (though an exception apparetly goes to Max Payne, which managed to successfully convert the original third person shooter into an isometric game). Similarly, only 11 M-rated games were released on the DS, the best and most well known of them being Chinatown Wars.

Yes! As a primarily Game Boy gamer in my youth Max Payne was the only M rated game I ever got. And I played through the whole thing, great game. ๐Ÿ™‚

Nowadays I also have the only rated M game for the to final Game Boy, Mortal Kombat 3. ๐Ÿ˜†

No pokemon emerald?

For shame

Im also not seeing mega man battle network 3: white version

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I wish I could have all of them! Maybe some day...

I was never really interested in any Pokemon game after the first two gens. They just didn't feel like different enough games to me. So with GBA, I only grabbed the remakes of the first gen when they came out.

[-] Anders429@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I had a similar experience. Never played the Hoenn games, but I have copies of both FireRed and LeafGreen.

[-] gridleaf@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Emerald is pretty pricey these days. I got my copy years ago for a fraction of the price, and I felt like it was overpriced back then.

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I can relate to that. Same story, but for Virtual Boy's NA Jack Bros. Way too expensive to get now, but I got it way back when and thought I was paying too much at the time!

[-] VanitasTheUnversed@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

I've been thinking about buying the bootleg Fire Red and Leaf Green because theyre expensive, but I want to own them lol

I used to have most of the Pokemon games, but my mother took all my shit to a pawn shop when I was a teenager.

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

If you have to have dedicated carts of them - I'd say to go for it!

If all you need is to play them again - I would strongly recommend getting a flash cart instead. Repros can be pretty unreliable.

[-] Anders429@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

The worst part is, she probably got very little for those Pokemon games that are now worth $100+ a piece.

[-] BoiLudens@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

I am so glad my Metroid games and fire emblem survived

[-] bozo@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Shout out to Gunstar Super Heroes! I feel like many fans of the Genesis original never even knew it got a (VERY good) sequel.

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

It's a great game! And Treasure seemed to work in every graphical trick they could get out of the system. There's some impressive and chaotic graphics in that game.

[-] BinarySystem@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

You've got some real bangers in that pile!

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I definitely have some options when I need a GBA fix!

[-] JoeKis@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago
[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Oh, it's right there.. on my wishlist.

I do have it on my 3DS though as part of that Ambassador program. Not the same as having the cart, so I still want to track it down sometime.

[-] drcouzelis@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 months ago

Heyyy I just picked up a copy of Iridion 3D! I haven't played it much yet but love the 3D effect. Kind of a Starfox style shooter.

If I had to pick one game from your pile to pick up and play right now it'd probably be Sonic Advance. I played and re-played that game a TON, although I never actually beat it.

Which is your favorite?

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

It's too hard to choose!

Advance Wars is always a solid choice, with the ability to create your own maps it never really gets old.

Metroid Fusion is one of my favorites too.

Drill Dozer is a blast to 100%, and WarioWare is fantastic any time you pick it up!

There are too many great games on this system for me to choose!

I'm still looking to grab Iridion II, it's supposed to be the superior game to the first. Love the music in Iridion 3D though ๐Ÿ‘

[-] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 10 months ago

Advance wars ๐Ÿ‘Œ

[-] InvisibleShade@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

The GBA was my first handheld console. Good times.

[-] A7thStone@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

All of those RPGs and no Breath of Fire? For shame. I kid, but Breath of Fire was such a good series.

[-] Fwow13@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I know! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

It's been on the list for a while, but there are just too many great games in the GBA library. It's difficult to track down every cart I want (cause I kinda want all of them)

[-] A7thStone@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I lucked into finding them both at a retro game con. I was stoked because that completed my collection of every version of BoF.
