According to certain idiots on the Internet history in Iran began exactly in 1979, and not a day sooner.

They also seem to be completely unaware that the 1979 revolution happened because it was massively popular at the time. Khomeini returned from exile a hero, in no uncertain terms.

The British also operated agents inside the Tudeh Party [pro-communist] and were involved in organising “false flag” attacks on mosques and public figures in the party’s name. CIA officer Richard Cottam later observed that the British “saw the opportunity and sent the people we had under our control into the streets to act as if they were Tudeh. They were more than just provocateurs, they were shock troops, who acted as if they were Tudeh people throwing rocks at mosques and priests.”

I wonder when they'll pull the same shit here. I'm sure the TLAs are behind some of the mass shootings in some way but I wonder when the full-on mask-off iron-fist fascism takeover is gonna happen.

It's definitely something US is still doing all over the world, maybe in more subtle ways, but destabilization and regime change are the favorite tools of the regime. That said, it seems that their ability to project power is greatly diminished nowadays.
