StarCraft 3 is reportedly in development, at least that's what one journalist seemed to claim in a Q&A on Twitter.

Will we need mobile phones to play it?

Whatever the platform it will have a battle pass, five "premium currencies", an item shop "only for cosmetics pinky swear lol" and in order to unlock upgrades players will have to drink a verification can.

They dropped verification cans. Instead you have to play an elder rift in diablo immortal to log in to SC3.

If you haven't already, check out Stormgate. It's made by some ex-Blizzard devs who worked on SC2, and it just went into closed alpha.

While I would love for SC3 to be great, I'm sure it's a really long way off if it even exists. Stormgate has some very capable and passionate people behind it, and it should release in a reasonable timeframe.

Some ex-Blizzard devs? Try like half of the Starcraft dev team. The other half went to one of Dreamhaven's studios. Blizzard is just kind of creatively dead at this point, they have no imagination, they steal animations and ideas from other games like the whole flying stuff in Dragonflight being stolen from Guild Wars 2, and now they're making a game in the survival genre that hasn't really been popular since the launch of Ark.

It's going to be Free to Play, which is good but makes me nervous in a way as well.

Skeptical but it would be nice. I think Blizzard has abandoned the genre.

I want this to be true

[–] CIWS-30@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

That would be interesting if true, but I wonder if they'd actually be able to make it good. It's been a long time since they made an RTS, and a lot of their RTS developers have flat out left. They're not the same company they used to be.

I think there might be some hope of it being good though. Lately, Blizzard's been putting out better products. Diablo 4 for instance, and the new, positive changes for World of Warcraft, including the latest patches and Dragonflight. Seem to be making up for the missteps of Diablo 3 and Wow's Shadowlands.

Given most of the original devs aren't there anymore, i'm kindof expecting it to be the minimal barebones and safe. Very low expectations for custom maps.

There is no safe for RTS. The genre is too niche and varied (yes I know that's counter intuitive). StarCraft is already the safest formula but even then it's not. There's two very different games that really only share lore and some very minor mechanics. They could angle more towards Warcrafts style as it's unlikely they'll ever make another Warcraft RTS, but that's not a safe call either.

Making any RTS is a risk right now.

Oh no, that means a World of StarCraft will come after. Space of Starcraft? Solar of Starcraft? Syzygy of Starcraft?

Star of starcraft, ez
