How does "someone stole a car from our dealership" turn into "armed and dangerous"? 🤔

Cops. If you're an acorn they shoot you, imagine what they think of car thieves.

It's America. Safe to assume you're all armed and dangerous
Well, not safe for those of us who have skin shades darker than mild tan.

It's baffling how the police are not blamed at all in this scenario. First thought going through her head was "he's black, they're gonna kill him". Fucked up country. ACAB
It was bad enough when Hertz was reporting tons of active rental cars as stolen and getting over 100 people arrested: https://www.inc.com/minda-zetlin/hertz-lawsuit-arrests-number-unsealed.html
Now we have to worry about Dealership loaners as well?!
Dispatchers should take note and start asking callers if the car is a rental/loaner... or in the case of Hertz, just ignoring their automated software reports entirely.
They should be charging the companies. You can’t just falsely report crimes.
Is there a text version of this story?
From Gemini:
This video reports a mistaken identity case where a man, Jamie Rogers, was pulled over by the police under the suspicion of driving a stolen car. The car, a Kia SUV, was actually a loaner vehicle provided by the dealership while Jamie’s own car was in for repairs.
The video starts with a police bodycam footage showing the officer yelling at Jamie to step out of the vehicle and put his hands in the air. Jamie complied with the officer’s instructions and expressed confusion about the situation. The officer believed the car was stolen and threatened to shoot Jamie if he did not follow his instructions.
Jamie reported that the whole experience was terrifying. He thought he was going to be shot by the officers. His wife, Natalie, was also very scared after she received a call from the dealership about the stolen car. She worried that Jamie might have been injured or even killed during the police stop.
The misunderstanding arose because the dealership misplaced the loaner agreement. The couple is now suing the dealership because of the psychological trauma they endured. Their lawyer argued that the police report could have been avoided if the dealership had double-checked their records. The video ends with Jamie and Natalie expressing their frustration with the dealership. They are thankful that their children were not in the car during the incident, but they cannot help but shudder to think what could have happened.
Gemini carefully avoiding to mention his fears over how his ethnicity would factor into the police’s response …
“Threatened to shoot Jamie if he did not follow his instructions”
Willing to kill, over a car. ACAB
Willing to kill And damage the car that might be stolen.
Thank you
Fucked up place where you pull a gun on a man for "expensive" car like KIA.
Well, this is !Videos@lemmy.world though.
That's a fair point, I didn't realize. I'm glad someone was about to provide a summary anyway
