I'm starting to think this fellow might just be a bit of an asshole. He seems to spend 100% of his time assaulting people.

I've recently started a job driving a shuttle van across the city for the general public. I've got a wide amount of leeway, but the audiobooks I've been listening to have been... not hitting right. I started with "The Name of the Wind" which was extremely well reviewed. I liked it a lot for the most part, and for the most part so did my passengers, but at one point it started talking about how much the main character would like to see one of the young woman characters naked and would pay for that privilege. In the context of the story it sort-of made sense, but out of context it was completely gross and I was beyond embarrassed. The next day I tried "Consider Phlebas" (again well reviewed) which was a completely different thing, but almost immediately it started in with a vivid description the mc being drowned in sewage- It did not hit right, despite the interesting developments that I would ordinarily probably enjoy for just myself.

I'm looking for suggestions of completely SFW audiobooks I could listen to (through audible, alas) with random passengers of all walks of life coming and going without context. I cannot stress strongly enough that they should be quite literally safe for work. I don't mind skirting a bit of controversy or challenging preconceptions or introducing new or unusual perspectives (In fact I kind of relish the idea of being somewhat progressive and/or boundary-pushing, though I'd like to start small after these initial embarrassments), but it cant be crude, or sexual, or violent.

Thanks for your attention, please chime in with your suggestions.

Edit: Oh jeez wow this got more traction than I expected. I appreciate everyone's suggestions! I'll be trawling through them in the coming weeks and maybe even post my experience with some of them, "shuttle van reviews" or some such. Thanks!

If it's not called "Spaceballs II: The Search For More Money" I'm not here for it.

You're only allowed to be right about one thing at a time. That'll be six-and-a-quarter million dollars for your arrogance, and also how dare you?

Mhm, characters, worldbuilding, etc... Yeah, hey George? How's Winds of Winter coming along there, bud?

I believe the article says they were leading Jewish.

It might just be a matter of being more efficient with your route, or occasionally letting go of rooms if you're already hungry to move on a little quicker.

If you're struggling with food without Horn of Plenty, have you tried consistently letting yourself starve to somewhere between 50-80% of your max health before eating?

It is a true Roguelike game. Turnbased, tactical combat with exploration elements limited by hunger necessitating careful resource management in the form of food, and later torches to manage an increasingly limited range of vision. Consumable items, mostly potions and scrolls, serve as powerful and potentially dangerous utility items quite capable of making or breaking an entire run in a single turn. Runs may last anywhere from a few hours to several days depending not just on how careful you are, but also since it is turn based you can pick it up and put it down at a whim- but be warned! There is no save scumming. If you die, you die.

There are paid versions on steam and the app stores, but also the author of the "Shattered Pixel Dungeon" fork (my personal recommendation) maintains a repository of free and up-to-date versions, though there is some inconvenience messing with the compilations. Regularly updated with balance patches and new content. He's even a member of this community, and one of the mods: 00-Evan. Well worth the small price of admission.

I saw a couple posts of someone asking for help with their homework, and thought it might be a good idea to have our own dedicated Homework Help community.

If you're taking classes, or even better yet, have passed classes, please subscribe to !hwh@lemmy.world. I will do my best to answer what I can, but admittedly I've been out of school for a long time, so I'd really appreciate your help with this project. Also, we can't help anyone if we don't have questions to answer, so please don't hesitate to ask!

Edit: Solved!

~~Edit2: Partially solved. Issue resolved on this instance, but the other instance doesn't have a "mark as read" button.~~

Edit3: Fully solved. There needs to be a visible message for the "mark all as read" button to appear, which did remove the phantom messages on that instance. Turns out I had "hide bot posts" enabled on both instances, and all the hidden/ghost messages were from bots.

I have a "1 message unread" icon that permanently displays. When I attempt to check my message, the unread messages field appears blank, as if I have read all my messages, but at the top of the page the bell icon still shows 1 unread. New messages increment from one, rather than zero, too. On another instance I just got to 2 permanent phantom unread messages. How do I make this go away?

Also, turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute. Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo. While the congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict...

Pic unrelated.
