Can confirm that these figures are very inflated. I currently live in Hawaii on half of that "living wage". Have a nice (by Hawaii standards) 2 bedroom apartment and still have over 1000 in excess income after rent\utils\groceries\gas each month.

112k is around what i would need to be making to afford a house\mortgage, but its possible to "live" without.

I didn't delete my account but did delete RIF once it stopped working. I was mostly a lurker on reddit and the few comments and posts i did make are of little to no value to the platform.

I figured wasting a few MB of space on a harddrive would be a more effective protest than doing them a favor and deleting my admittedly worthless content.

Honestly? Zuckerberg has always had an obsession with the next step as it relates to how people use the internet. He has a track record of trying to catch lightning in a bottle again and getting struck by lightning instead, to the detriment of his own company.

Just look at the Metaverse, he got obsessed with a relatively new technologies (vr and blockchain) and wasted billions of dollars chasing the same high he once got when Facebook took over.

Maybe he sees money in the fediverse, but i think Zuckerberg is just getting excited about a new technology like the rest of us. Unlike the rest of us however, he will likely end up spending billions of dollars continuing to chase that high that he got from Facebook.

Kbin has seen a staggering amount of growth in the past few weeks, and with it a bunch of discussion about issues and bugs.

Constructive criticism will help make kbin even greater, but i wanted to take some time to appreciate how great of an app it has been to use these past few weeks, and to the sole developer @ernest for all the long hours put in to keep things running smoothly.

Keep up the great work!

I've already felt the sting of the protests when googling solutions to various issues. I used to be able to include "reddit" in the search and would almost always find relevant information quickly, but now as OP mentioned many posts and whole communities have gone dark.

It's all been really eye opening about the potential negative consequences of having so many communities and information in the control of so few.

I think its more likely that the posts on reddit are the same, and we are simply starting to become accustomed to the posts\quality of comments on the fediverse.

Our eyes are finally starting to open.

If you are using kbin try the option to create an "article". Thats the most similar option to the traditional reddit post.

Over the last week or so I have noticed that I have a lot more fun engaging in discussions on here as opposed to reddit.

On reddit i always felt like i was shouting into the void and there was nobody listening, which resulted in me becoming a lurker for the last 12 years.

Maybe it's the small size of this community, the lack of karma farmers, that I've finally lost my mind or a little bit of all of the above, but this place just feels like something special. I'm really looking forward to building the fediverse with all of you!

Top righter reporting in. I won't change and I'm not sorry.
