For decades, it was Dark Horse Comics who had the rights to both Alien and Predator in the realm of comic books, putting out several series and one-shots that were well worth our time. With Disney's takeover of Fox's empire and all its properties, the opportunity to move both franchises to Marvel (also owned by the House of Mouse) came, and things changed for the first time in forever. So far, Marvel Comics' take on both franchises has been interesting to say the least, and you definitely shouldn't overlook the comics they have put out so far.

They are:

  1. Aliens: Nightmare Asylum
  2. Aliens: Labyrinth
  3. Aliens: Genocide
  4. Aliens vs. Predator
  5. Aliens: Salvation
  6. Alien: Bloodlines, Revival & Icarus
  7. Aliens: Music of the Spears
  8. Aliens: Outbreak
  9. Aliens: Dead Orbit
  10. Aliens: Sacrifice

I enjoyed it. Not amazing but solid. I think it’s the fourth best movie in the franchise after the first 3. I think it had a little too much fan service and effects could have been better but acting and story were very good, especially the android. Hopefully it is a star-making role for him. I’d definitely watch a sequel that continues the story of the characters if one happens.

Why choose? How about a lightsaber with an adamantium hilt?

Start a yoga practice and keep it up. In 20 years, you’ll thank yourself.

I’ve heard and read the age concern before but some of the actors in Alien were pretty young too. Also, film as an art form has evolved since then. I’m normally pessimistic or cautiously optimistic with franchise reboots these days but Romulus has me hopefully optimistic. Director had a lot of creative leash to make this movie. When inspired creatives are allowed to cook, tasty usually follows. 🤞🏻

When a long term Star Wars fan (me) and a short term Star Wars fan (wife) both find the show mediocre then it doesn’t reflect well. Wake me up when Andor season 2 is out.

This post and comment thread has been one of the most amusing I have read on Lemmy. Kudos!

Hopefully Romulus can reinvigorate the Alien franchise the way that Prey reinvigorated the Predator franchise. Looks promising.🤞🏻

Hi all! My wife and I may be considering moving to Kansas City this year. Why should we? Why shouldn’t we? What makes Kansas City special? What are it’s pros and cons? Thanks for any information.

I am currently reading book 7 and am enjoying it enough. What would be your non-spoiler argument for not bothering to finish it and read book 8?

Not sure what happened with the iOS client that caused that.

I would love a compact SUV EV version of my reliable 2002 Honda CR-V with 188,000 miles. Fingers crossed it materializes by 2026 or at least has an advanced announcement. Otherwise a Rivian R2 or R3 could be the next choice.

Wouldn’t surprise me if like in the comics, he comes back as an AI simulation version of himself to mentor next generation.

Looks like the franchise finally got reacquainted with its true DNA. 🤞🏻

After finishing reading books 1–6 for the first time, I would personally rank them in order of enjoyment:

  1. Dune
  2. Children of Dune
  3. Dune Messiah
  4. God Emperor of Dune
  5. Chapterhouse: Dune
  6. Heretics of Dune

I am honestly not sure if I will re-read books 5 and 6. I did enjoy some parts of Chapterhouse, but overall thought the ending was ho-hum. I was entertained and engaged by the first three novels and found God Emperor to be an interesting philosophical and heady trip and didn't mind the near lack of action. I found books five and six also had interesting parts, but overall didn’t offer as satisfying of reads as a whole.

Now I am faced with the decision as to whether or not to read the next two books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson (Hunters of Dune and Sandworkd of Dune). I know that there are some strong opinions on these two books and that many are not fans, like many also don’t particularly like the last three of Frank Herbert’s books.

I’d like to hear from this community what people’s thoughts are on the series as a whole and the pros and cons of continuing to read the last two books or not. Does it put a satisfying bow on the overall story for those they did read them? Are they worth the time? Would it be best to call it here and re-read the books I did enjoy on occasion? I’m curious about what others have experienced in their readings and interpretations of this series as well. Thanks for any thoughtful replies anyone cares to offer. Keep it flowin’.
