Any time someone brings this up I wonder if they're financed by the fossil fuel industry as it's just such a weird point to make.

First: consider the alternatives: Every form of energy has an environmental cost associated with it. Surely we agree that while not perfect, PV is vastly superior in this regard to gas/coal/oil? It might even be less polluting than nuclear, but it's early here and I'm too tired to research this.

Second: PV modules have a very long life span. At least 20 years. After that time, they'll probably be operating still, but at maybe 60-80% of peak performance. That's probably not good enough for commercial use, but I built myself a nice little garden shed solar array using "old" modules because they were basically free and I don't care that much about peak performance in my use case. That's to say, these things can still be used for a long time.

Third: if they ever do need to be completely recycled, well, that's doable. In the EU, it's actually compulsory. The processes are there, although they don't quite scale yet. That's mainly because there's just not that many old modules to recycle yet.

sooo with all that going on, what exactly are you basing your point on?

Discord?! (feddit.de)

Yo,

I just got a "come join us on Discord"-Popup inviting Sync users to join the community for Sync for Lemmy on Discord.

Two questions:

  1. Why and
  2. Why?

I don't want the join another Sync community when I have this one right here AND I especially do not want to join a community on Discord.

It just seems a bit tine deaf?

LJ, the reason I feel so strongly about this is that I really like Sync! We have an awesome app and we have a good community here. What gives?

I mean, it's absolutely petty, yes. OTOH, while it worded as being aimed at EU users spending a short while outside of the US, it's very clearly aimed at non-EU citizens trying to also profit from the EU ruling.

Example: if a US citizen takes a weeklong trip to Italy, they now have access to third-party stores, but Apple basically makes them unusable as soon as they're stateside. Can't have nice things.

I mean, him stating a name and his motivations and verifying that it was indeed this man and those were his motives are two different things.

I like journalism that verifies statements. Is there a man by that name and is he deceased? If the answer to those questions had been "no", it would have been an entirely different story.

I just wanted to downvote initially, but consider this:

a) your premise is wrong ("I read somewhere") b) if it were true that there's some innate tendency in Dutch people to not want to strive for anything, how do you explain their fairly advanced society? c) if it were true, they'd also not have a functioning government

your's isn't a good take

I can't help but feel like your sampling might be skewed.

Vollautomaten (I. E. Fully automated coffee machines that brew espressos and cappuccinos etc) tend to make worse coffee, I agree. That's why I don't use the one in the office.

Having an experienced barista grind you an exactly measured dose fresh for your coffee at a good Café is quite nice, on the other hand.

But that's nothing to do with Germany or Australia.

Why not legalize trade fully and cash in on those sweet sweet taxes?

was @Tiptopit@feddit.de sagt.

Not to shit on your parade (and congratulations for losing that weight!) buuuut for anyone reading this thinking "juicing" is a shortcut to a healthy life:

It really isn't.

Fruit juices like apple or orange juice especially when bought contain a ton of sugar and often lack all-important fiber as OP points out.

In fact, drinking a lot of (fruit) juice has been linked to increased risk of type 2 diabetes (see "health effects"). There is absolutely no indication that juicing is in any way superior to just eating fruit and veggies and to the contrary quite some indications that juicing is actually inferior.

And not to put words on your mouth OP but juicing proponents often overlap with detox proponents, another fad which has absolutely 0 base in reality.

Goddamn dude, like yeah, an overwhelming majority of successful mainstream artists are white males... But don't tell me you couldn't possibly have considered

Patti Smith Sinéad O'Connor Howard Jones Manuel Gagneux MIA Prince Jimi Hendrix Freddie Mercury Slash Charles Bradley Doro Pesch The vocalists from blood command The singer from Jinjer

And that's just top of my head. Sounds like you really didn't care about it that much because "white men just make better music and think better thoughts".

Pathetic.

Hopping on to the "I feel at home" train! One thing that really bugged me about the alternatives was that they weren't as smooth and fluid. Like I scroll down and it jumps, I scroll up, it jitters etc.

Sync is the UI and the UX I've missed!

Hi,

I'd be super happy if Jerboa featured a native way to tag users in a thread or even hashtags of the expanded fediverse. Is there currently a way to do that and I just missed it? For an example of what I mean, I'll refer to the Reddit Enhancement Suite on Desktop.

Say I want to reply to two users in a thread in the same comment. I'll reply to user A's post so they get a notification, but I also want to make sure user B also sees my comment. I start typing /u/user and RES automatically gives ma a drop-down list to Auto complete of all the users populating this thread that match what I've started to type out. In this case, RES suggests a drop down list of

  • userB
  • userC
  • userD

I click on userB and hit send on my comment. Now both user A and user B receive a notification.

Is that possible? And if so, could we apply the same logic to hashtags in the fediverse or Mastodon to begin with?
