The 2 signs that jump out at me:

  • Rising rates of "deaths of despair"

  • Watching birthrates fall into the abyss, all across the world. People seeing the future in store and opting out.

Ignorance and willful ignorance are different things though.

Someone who hasn't been educated can be educated. Some who refuses to be educated presents a different challenge.

I have pegged around that time to be the peak. At least from a technological standpoint.

With the exception of medical tech, it seems that most "advancements" in the last 10 years haven't represented actual quality of life improvements for the average person. Instead, they have been ways for corporations and governments to extract more money from us, gather more information, and exert more control.

I wonder if this is a consequence of so much privilege compared to the vast, vast majority of humanity that have lived so far.

People have a lot to lose, which has made people very risk-averse.

“We just have to get the right people in there”

I mean in theory I suppose. But this is the same fantasy-land of "if everyone just got together and did this one thing" like some sort of hivemind. Sure, the laws of physics don't prevent this sort of effort, but it goes against human nature.

Every accusation is a confession

Descent was ahead of its time. Are there any modern games that are similar?

Pretty fucking rich coming from a guy who looks like he's never missed a meal in his life.

And no the point isn't that he's fat, it's that he's a hypocrite. Definitely the type that would pull up the ladder behind him.
