I'm interested in your opinion about the term enshittification. It's a Doctrowism and even though it's a little imprecise, frequently misused/understood, a little childish, and it isn't my first choice, it's the term that took off. Do you know a better phrase? Not trying to put you on the spot. You always have good takes.

I consider myself lucky that my body started outright rejecting alcohol around 25. Prior to that I was drinking about 3 liters of liquor a month. Half a beer triggers a multiple day migraine now. It's the perfect excuse to not drink as well, so if you're getting pressured feel free to use it.

As with many things there's a spectrum from intentional malice to not being paid to care to not even considering it.

I think especially in laptops not having that feature is really missed by even a lot of "normal people" and the necessary hardware would cost what, a couple dollars max?

I think the fact that other methods (WiFi direct, Bluetooth file sharing, etc) are so poorly or slowly supported, when the "how do I get this file to you?" question is so common, is evidence enough to suggest that there have been a number of conversations following this form at various companies.
"Let's support WiFi direct".
"Why would anyone want that when they have onedrive/icloud? wink nudge"

I am pleased to hear it's coming with USB 4 however. Maybe the sneakernet isn't dead afterall.

Also it's the highest form of bullshit that I can't just plug two computers into each other with a USB C and transfer a file at like 10 gb/s.

In fact I have a conspiracy theory that they intentionally make sharing a file directly between two devices with no 3rd parties difficult so they can control and surveil what is shared more easily.

Maybe countries with nuclear capabilities will start threatening to nuke eachother if they don't follow climate agreements.

Warming oceans affecting currents and the reflective ice sheets disappearing leading to probable runaway temperatures after we hit a certain threshold have been being discussed for decades. In a couple years you're going to hear a lot of politicians and oil funded think-tanks saying "no one knew this could happen!!"

Recently they've started intentionally reducing print quality with third party toners.
