I second containers. I use Unraid and have found it pretty simple to get started. At one point I was using a vm on unraid as my gaming machine, although I have moved away from that and now have a low power Unraid server for hosting.

Agreed. It is difficult to recommend in some ways because I didn't find it all that engaging at first. The gameplay was interesting but didn't massively hook me.

But then that bit with the swimming happened right at the end and... Wow. It just reframed the whole game for me.
