Exactly. With all the guns out there, and all the crazy people with guns, it was only a matter of time before this sort of thing happened. And unfortunately, it will happen again.

Beside it not being the proper democratic way of deciding how to be governed, the problem with political violence is that it quickly spirals out of control and can burn everything to the ground.

That is not the way we do things here in the US.

Will they get angry enough to do something about the GOPers that are causing the problems? Probably not.

When I left academia to go to the private sector, I got a 40% bump in pay, and worked at least 30% less. And I didn't have to write grants to support my program. When I was an academic, I thought people never came back to academia from the private sector because they couldn't. I quickly found out that it was because they'd have to be crazy to come back. I wouldn't have returned to the university for anything less than an endowed chair. And that was NOT going to happen.

I have a Latin surname. I am sure it's cost me in some circles. But in others it's an advantage. At least for me I think it kind of evens out.

Are Latinos over represented in your company with respect to the population? That would be a defensible position for your boss on this. I mean if you had 85% Latinos that could be taken as evidence of some sort of ethnic bias in favor of Latinos.

The Catholic Church is a oligarchic Republic in that the Popes are elected. But only the Cardinals do the electing.
