imo word censoring should be reserved for the most disgusting words like mic*osoft

how do you see complaints like this helping fix hardware support issues?

it's not like people don't know that wlan support on linux isn't great, or that nvidia drivers are bad, it's just that the community doesn't have enough resources to fix them.

if we want real fixes we need to either have the companies making these products start writing drivers for linux, or more volunteers writing drivers, neither of which sound like something that'll come soon.

I've honestly rarely seen negative responses to posts actually asking for help (at least here), the only reason people are responding to this post negatively is because OP's post can sound arrogant and ignorant.

ignorant because they are restating a common complaint that everyone's heard many times already (that some devices have bad support) and arrogant because they are pointing the blame at volunteers rather than the companies making those products that don't support linux, volunteers that a lot of people here respect

I'm sure the responses would've been very different if it was a post asking for help rather than a post of complaints

i mean Bluetooth never works well on any hardware in my experience, I always just avoid it like the plague

probably just a badly supported network card/chip, have you considered getting a better supported one?

this looks like a very skewed statistic, ofc the us looks bad because there's only the most civilised European countries, Australia and the us included

is like half the heft

that's exactly why I use an old thinkpad, they're much more solid than newer ones and are a lot more modular/durable/easy to repair because every component is bulkier.

the community you posted this on also has a pinned weekly linux help thread: https://programming.dev/post/19443450

oh yeah the quad core upgrade is great, browsers run so much better with a 3632qm than the stock 3320m. Also, although everyone says the delta cooler (the nice quiet one on the t430) is insufficient with the quad core, it works perfectly fine in my experience with fresh thermal paste

idk, never worried about it but my main computer doesn't have it so I just passively use that for important things

Made some replacement parts for the T430 because I had a broken T430 that was missing these. None of them require screws so they should be ideal if you find a broken T430 on the side of the road or something.

I just bought a used "faulty" T430.

It doesn't turn on at all (no lights, no sounds, no fan spin) and when I tried to turn it on with only the critical components (motherboard, power adapter and speakers), I got the same result.

I've also examined the power area on the motherboard, and it seems like 20V is getting delivered to the motherboard just fine.

But I've looked at the motherboard thoroughly, and I couldn't find a single part of it that looked bad.

Is this definitely caused by the motherboard, or could it be an issue with another component like the CPU?

Because of the time it takes for mods to moderate content on Lemmy, the"new" sort's been prone to abuse.

Could a "delayed new" sort, where the newest content x hours ago is shown be introduced to help suppress this problem?

Coming from Windows 10 (I switched 6 months ago), I find the task switcher animation in KDE extremely obnoxious, as I expect it to pop up instantly.

Still, I enjoy the other animations in KDE, so I don't want to turn off all the animations in the global settings.

I searched for a solution but all the relevant posts were on the now defunct KDE subreddit which I cannot view.

Is there any way to turn off just the fade in/fade out animation?
