I personally would remove or edit the post with an update if I made a comment like this (alluding to committing adventurism) like I know you’ve clarified you didn’t mean it and that’s good, but I think keeping that part up is still harmful and the least you could do is make an update that it’s not serious.

I just think we make mistakes and this is one of them. I’m still sympathetic with you don’t get me wrong I just think it would be more mature of you to reconsider what you say online in regards to making vague threats. Like idk I’m nearly 30 and I would personally cringe at myself if I made a post like this lol

I shouldn’t be up at midnight I have work in 8 hours doggirl-shock

[–] KatySosa@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That’s a teeny bit immature imo

I'm pretty old compared to the average age of this community

Then I think it’s your duty to set an example to the younger people who are a part of this community and not encourage adventurism even in the form of venting frustrations.

We all deal with hardships from time to time and it’s not just exclusive to you. I’d advise you edit the adventurism part from the post so people don’t get the wrong idea.

I don’t understand what you mean, what has likely been run through state agencies?

Also I don’t want to encourage this behavior it’s very defeatist and counter-revolutionary and you should know better if you’re a real leftist. Money running out and being laid off aren’t good excuses to do an adventurism.

Also you strike me as someone young so if this is the case you have to understand that as you age and the more you develop and spend time doing productive things like community work and organizational work, you will be less likely to see adventurism as an option. I just think you need to be told that it’s cringe to say a certain thing for an online audience because we’re all just usernames. Please don’t do anything stupid

I hope the last line isn’t serious and it’s just an offhand remark due to your situation like I totally understand the emotional toll unemployment has but using this as the motivator to think about doing adventurism is really immature.

You do understand that it’s not just you that suffers the consequences but your family members, friends, and loved ones who are now going to be monitored by the state for as long as they’re in power?

I don’t think it’s fair to subject them to this over this insatiable urge to be martyred, I think this is an issue with a lot of people who have their ideological awakening online. Jt isn’t a healthy outlook not just as a leftist but as a person and there’s better ways you can manage the stresses you’re experiencing.

We have a group chat so I’m thinking that I should send a message asking them if they wanna meet up and talk about it

i live in a major city and a lot of my colleagues are leftists or liberal kinda like Bernie types. i think they might get excited over the idea of a union and i have mentioned it before. I just need to be able to talk to them soon

[–] KatySosa@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Personally i think a lot of my coworkers, especially the younger ones and near my age are all fairly aware of leftism and stuff. It helps that we live in a major city so like they totally understand and I’ve been able to discuss this with a few of them. I still want to take the advice of others here and maybe lay off from putting these out for now and I’ll just wait till we know which unions will support us.

I hear you!

And yeah that was me! PSL did help me and the member for that had experience in organizing. It wasn’t really PSL backed it was just a meeting i had with the member to get any resources and help with unionizing which they did and i think ill get some info soon about which unions to join soon

[–] KatySosa@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

I’m going to wait to see which unions I’ll be able to join so i can just use their pamphlets instead because they would be more welcoming than my own. I think this was a little side project for me I got a bit too excited after my first meeting with PSL lol!

My coworker mama (her nickname for opsec) who is really into organizing and giving me encouragement is my supervisor though so i hope this isn’t a problem. i still trust her though and like she’s only a supervisor so I think it’s safe. I also have a real good relationship with my boss he’s really sweet and even though he’s part of the upper management team i still think he would support this because his relationship with his superiors might be strained anyway. Imagine getting my boss to join the union too 😱

Just a quick lil draft because i want to make this right. I also used the advice i got here to help me make it so thank you all!

Helloooo posting my update for yesterday but was too tired to upload so forgive me. Had the meeting and it went really really great! It was really helpful for me to talk to someone with the experience and resources to help me get where i need to be with the skills required to help me with organizing my workplace. They gave me a really nice run down on how I should go about and we both worked on a lengthy step by step process on what my next steps will be and how each outcome may or may not determine the next moves I would have to make will be.

Shutout to @curmudgeonthefrog@hexbear.net who suggested i make a list of all my employees and to add their names to a spreadsheet estimating how pro-union they are because this is exactly what the PSL member suggested i do! I’ve nearly finished working on this list because this is what i started working on immediately after the meeting. Next steps would be to start slowly discussing unions to my colleagues so i can gauge their interest in them to see where they stand and luckily i think a lot of them are in support or will be in support once I mention unionizing to them. Also thanks to @Antiwork@hexbear.net for this useful list of questions i will surely be using!

Talk about things they like about working there

  1. Things they want to change.

  2. Point to how both things they like and things they want to change are solely in managements control.

  3. Find a union win in your job sector. Point to what workers did to win that and ask what it would mean for them to have that. (Bonus if it connects to their issues which is why you want a bunch of these in the back pocket).

  4. Ask them if they support forming a union. (Clearly and directly)

  5. Inoculation as i mentioned earlier.

  6. This is how we win... Getting list of all coworkers. Talking to them. And building support. Stop talking to people who aren't supportive immediately about anything Union related. Get to 60-70% support. Take it to a Union. Vote.

  7. Action. Who can you talk to? What list can you get? Who can you start building relationships with?*

So PSL did discuss the list of unions we could possibly join and they even said they will reach out to those they have connections with so this is extremely helpful for me and gives me so much motivation and i’m so happy that an organization like PSL is helping me out! They also urged me to join the IWW and to attend some of their meetings so i can start networking with people familiar with labor rights and they will be more than happy to help someone starting out.

Also they handed me the United and Win EWOC book for free! So i need to read this ASAP. EWOC is filled with lots of useful resources to help with anyone interested in organizing the workplace so I cannot recommend them enough. I also would like to recommend PSL wholeheartedly because this meeting has reinvigorated my spirit and made me feel so motivated and excited whereas before i was still keen on doing this but filled with a loooot of anxiety they really helped put me on the right path.

I think if anyone wants to fulfill this goal of unionizing their workplace then I HIGHLY suggest reaching out to PSL. Just do what I did and reach out to some of their organizers through social media and see where that takes you.

Really looking forward to the next steps in this process and i will definitely keep you up to date with my progress!

shoutout to whoever suggested i reach out to them… i messaged one of the organizers through instagram just before the weekend hit and they said they would be happy to meet and discuss my situation on Monday!!!

i am still on the fence with how well this is gonna work out but if there is a possibility to join the union then recruiting coworkers will be a bit of a challenge but a welcome one so i am excited. About 60% of them like me anyway but those i can convince have connections with the rest of the staff so i hope they can help me out here. I haven’t thought about new hires but i know about 3 people are close to walking out the door and i won’t stop them really because it sucks here. 😔

I will post about my meeting on monday… any advice for me before meeting someone from the PSL would be helpful thanks!

Foodtok makes things sooooo much harder for the service industry. If you aren’t waiting tables whilst a loud party of ten records you with their phones FLASH ON then you’re serving them the food that isn’t to their liking.

A new trend is chipotle cheaping out on the fillings and I can verify that this is 100% a fact as we’ve been given smaller sizes of ladles to dish out a smaller amount of the meats, but I have no control over this it’s a company decision… “The bowls are smaller than they were last week, can you get me a bigger one?”

THATS NOT HOW THIS WORKS AHHHHH

People in the west have been so used to having things their way that any sort of change is obviously the workers fault because IM the one keeping the large bowls to myself IM the one who is skimping out on portion sizes so I can goblin mode the fillings when my shift ends IM the one who increases the prices and all that.

I’m definitely going to look into unionizing because I can’t deal with any set back or pay cut because I’m sure something like that is coming round the corner. I don’t think chipotle is doing too good and the store a walk away from my location shut its doors down for good.

I just don’t want another customer to record me saying I’m not giving them enough filling just so they can refuse to pay, walk out, and upload to their millions of followers.

You can call me Katy (she/her)

I used to lurk back when the name just changed to hexbear but after some fallout i decided to leave. I really like what you’ve done with the place 💁‍♀️ the vibes are exquisite.

I really like public transport and trying to get a city job like driving the bus or even working for USPS but ideally public transport is my thing. I love 1920s-1950s black and white obscure films and i occasionally go to a theatre every time i have the day off. Trying to map out every theatre in my area as a fun lil hobby.

I love pizza and candy and i used to love burritos but after making them about 50 thousand times i am no longer a fan 😔🥲. If you’re ever in my area I could make you one for free though so hmu if you’re in the area 😛also would be really fucking cool if i can unionize my store because I’ve been able to turn my coworkers more left just through having discussions with them and they all seem to be on board with everything i say. Slowly but surely!

But yeah, good to be back i guess even if its a different vibe than one I’m used too. Don’t be shy!
