Ok but they’re actually kind of doing this. 🥺 I’m starting to suspect that Xiaohongshu is the simplest, greatest psy-op of our time. Just get the Americans on the platform, be really nice to us and boom we’re China-pilled.

Get Paxlovid ASAP if you can.

In his defense, many US normies have been very easily China-pilled in a matter of days. (And we love to see it!!!)

I don’t, unfortunately! This is the only animal-related podcast I listen to but now that you mention it, a podcast just talking about wild animals being cool would be great.

They’re gonna do what’s best for the Chinese people. Running afoul of the US govt does not benefit Chinese people. Why would they do it? There is a fair amount of risk involved and very little reward.

Luckily pandas are pretty chill, at least

Highly recommend the “Tooth and Claw” podcast. It’s hosted by a bear biologist, Wes Larsen, his brother Jeff Larsen, and their friend Mike Smith.

It’s about animal attacks but they take care not to demonize the animals. So they’re very compelling stories and they also give you practical information about how to avoid being attacked and what to do if you are attacked, plus biology and conservation info and lots of jokes. Pretty sure Wes is a low-key leftist too.

Grizzlies are probably Wes’ favorite animal and he’s worked with them a ton so they are featured prominently on the podcast.

TL;DR: Do not hug this adorable cuddly motherfucker under any circumstances.

This is very similar to an episode of Silicon Valley.

You’re not wrong, but also none of those countries are communist.

After 4 days on XHS, I am pretty much convinced that our own government might even be incentivizing the Chinese government to maintain the Great Firewall. Because they definitely do not want us talking to Chinese people. They’re all already telling us we need land reform. Like our gov must have known what could happen if we started talking to them directly.

Yeah most of them assumed that because we’re a rich country we have a high standard of living, worker protections, a good social safety net, etc. They are shocked to learn how bad it is. Some of them said they cried when they learned that poor people sell their plasma here to buy food. This one guy just keeps making videos about healthcare costs here like “$30,000 for normal hospital birth?!?! How do any Americans afford to have a baby?!?!”

Took a little break from the internet and touched some grass and it was great. Wander back in here after my hiatus and what do I find? Just a thread with a bunch of fatphobia.

Cute.

For a community that is incredibly careful about protecting its users from the -phobias and the -isms, there sure is a hell of a lot of unchecked fatphobia here basically any time fatness gets brought up.

It’s something I’ve noticed on the left in general as well. The leftist org I’m in has almost no fat people in it and something tells me that’s not because there aren’t any fat leftists out there.

Fatphobia is rooted in anti-Blackness and ableism.

I’d highly recommend the “Maintenance Phase” podcast with Michael Hobbes and Aubrey Gordon, as well as Aubrey Gordon’s books “What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat” and “You Just Need To Lose Weight.”

TL;DR: There’s mounting evidence that anti-fat bias in medicine is more to blame for poor medical outcomes in fat people rather than just the fat itself.

Diet and exercise don’t result in long-term weight loss for something like 95% of people. As a leftist, are you really gonna sit here and blame this on individual choices rather than systemic issues? Are you really gonna try to convince us that 95% of people are just lacking willpower?

Please note that this thread is not an invitation to convince me I’m wrong or share your own personal anecdotal story of successful long-term weight loss with the implication that others can do it because you did it. This post is a request that any thin person (or thin-adjacent person) reading this who wants to argue about how being fat is bad for your health do some research and some self-crit. This post is a request that this community rethink the way it engages with discussions about fatness, diet, fatphobia, and anti-fat bias.

Anti-fat bias literally kills people.
