Conceptionally I'm all for it. There are even series that have LN, Manga and Anime, so we could do a 3 medium thingy in theory. It's just becoming a huge tie investment at that stage, so maybe keeping the scope small for the first time would be a good idea. Like looking at just a specific high-profile scene from anime, manga and LN.

No not even close. The first season adapted only 2 volumes of the light novel which has currently 15 volumes.

That's a whiplash.

It's a movie edit of Season 1 and the fist two episodes of Season 2.

I was so scared for how this would play out, but with the Bento-Buddy in the picture, I think I'll have a good idea of where the show is going. I mean there is still a chance they Oreimo me in the end but here's to hope.

It's the type of trash that I really like but the love interests thirsting for a kid half their age is off-putting. I hope this will be put more into the background.

There isn't a thread for Dahlia In Bloom so I'll post here how much I HATE the voice of Volfred. He's supposed to be the super strong and tough soldier that stands at the vanguard of a monster hunter division that laughs death in the face. And then they somehow decided to go with a breathy shota twink voice for him. I hope they haven't ruined the LN for me.

It’s a slow burn for sure.

The track list made me chuckle. But the Walkman Fu was using was from 1979, so the production team get a bonk for not using songs from the right year. Or maybe it took 1-2 years for the songs to reach Japanse shores. In which case I haven't said anything.

if someone wants to guess the songs:

  • Hotel San-Fran / Falcons = Hotel California / Eagles (1976)
  • Hoe Deep is Your Sadness /BGs = How Deep is Your Love / Bee Gees (1977)
  • Ma Taker / Boney N. = Ma Baker / Boney M. (1977)
  • I Feel Crushed / Donna Spring = I Feel Love / Donna Summer (1977)
  • West Coast / Feather = East Coast / The Rock (1978)
  • Roger, We Can Boogie / Quattro = Yes Sir, I Can Boogie / Baccara (1977)
  • You Light Up My Future / Debbie = You Light Up My Life / Debby Boone (1977)
  • Don't Let Me Down / Santa Emerald = Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood / Santa Esmeralda (1977)
  • We Are The No.1 / Princess = We Are The Champions / Queen (1977)
  • I Just Wanna Be Your Something / Landy Gib = I Just Want to Be Your Everything / Andy Gibb (1977)

No, definitely wouldn't have made it better. But I still feel unsatisfied with such an important point just omitted. Aya died in her mid 60s so there could have been a lot of possible explanations given for her passing, but at the same time it's young enough that I am left wondering what the reason was.

They could have made it even worse. They didn't say why Aya passed away at such a young age. Let me spin you a story:

Since she obviously didn't make it big time and only played a single concert in a shady club in NY, she got disillusioned when hear dream didn't come true. She found solace in drugs and an abusive boyfriend who pimped her out. One of those customers beat her to death in a drug induced rage when she tried to steal some of his drugs for her own addiction. The club owner only has her guitar because she pawned it off early on. As to why it was special to him... he was the boyfriend how pimped her out and he's remorseful for indirectly causing her death. 3 days after Fu brought back those memories a he gets found by those band members we saw in the episode with an overdose and a suicide note saying just "sorry". And it could all have taken a different turn if only Fu had confided in Aya back then.

I loved the first episode. It felt so fresh for the isekai genre. But now by episode 3 I'm over the gimmick and bored. The introduction of those cliche villains at the end there wasn't helping either. The demon daughter (I assume) was the only thing I found interesting this episode.

I really like that Aqua got humanized. So far he only came across as this calculating revenge machine without any human emotion. To me he's always been an unlikeable character. But showing him now actually suffering from losing his mom, makes him more likable to me. It's not nice to say "hey, I like you better with PTSD" but it is what it is.

Akane seems like a genuinely good person to me and I hope her love will be returned at some point.

Japanese publishers, including Shueisha and Shogakukan, have invested $4.9 million in Mantra, a startup leveraging AI to accelerate manga translation.

I don't read many mangas, so I don't know how good or bad the translations are, but I thought the news was interesting at least.

If you could entice any author to create a spin-off series (or one-shot) about a side character of theirs, who would it be about?

Hello, for this week let's try a game. Post two truths and one lie about an LN or series; another poster must try to guess (please answer in spoilers so others can still try guessing).

I'll start:

  1. This series was first released in 2006 in Japan and got an EN release in 2009 from Yen Press and sold more than 5 million copies by October 2020.
  2. it is set in a futuristic, sci-fi world where humans and wolves coexist on a distant planet.
  3. It has been adapted into animes, mangas, videogames, and VR experiences.

What quote have you read in a light novel that was so mind-blowingly good that you immediately had the urge to have it permanently tattooed on your body?

After escaping while en route, she was brought to the restaurant by the people who would become her adoptive grandparents. Twenty years later, Olivia continues to live with her heart closed off to other humans, until, one day, a former mercenary by the name of Arthur stops by on a rainy morning, dripping wet. And what are those feelings he starts to develop for her?

Soup Forest is a place of meetings and partings, a place filled with the forest's bounties, a place of gathering for both animals and humans. They come together, share a meal, go their separate ways, and continue on with their lives.

One day, she learns her stepsister has become engaged to the second prince, a fact that forces her to run away from home. She doesn't get far before bumping into someone, however, and that someone just happens to be the first prince. This week let's try out a topic a bit deeper than asking about your favorites.

The question arose when I picked up A Silent Voice (Manga) for the April Fools joke. After having had my own problems with bullies all throughout my school days and more so after one of my daughters had to go through the same, I had a pretty extreme viewpoint. The Silent Voice anime and manga changed my stance on bullies somewhat, up to the point where I'm able to see them at least as human again.

But that made me question whether or not someone here has come across a light novel that affected them so much that it made them change their stance on something.

Okay, another simple one this week. Who is your favorite character?

For me, it’s Myne/Rosemyne from Ascendance of a Bookworm. I know, I know, it’s shocking, but hear me out: not only is she the complete opposite of the typical overpowered isekai character by being completely powerless (she is bedridden and nearly dying from climbing a flight of stairs), but she also gets everything she achieves by hard work and perseverance. Nothing is presented to her on a silver platter. No big-breasted goddess gifting her a cheat skill that let her cruise through life on easy mode. I’ve seen the argument that she’s an OP character because she got a lot of mana, but that argument doesn’t stand because she only got that much mana because she had to fight for her life constantly against her own body that was trying to kill her (and in fact killed the go Myne).

Reading about her story, character growth, and path is as captivating, motivational, and uplifting as it gets.

So that’s my favorite. Who is yours? And please don’t just throw out a name and leave me hanging wondering about the reasons.
