Was the grandson cool or a lib?

Eyebrows man's son, Yuri Brezhnev (died in 2013) and grandson, Andrei Brezhnev, (died in 2018) were also communists. Cornman's son, Sergei Khrushchev, died in 2020, apparently murdered.

He's a 'gamedev' (from what I've seen online, he's like those people who make a demo and a Patreon page but never finish the game and prefer to stream instead), streamer, and he used to work at Blizzard. He made multiple videos lying, saying Ross is an idiot and a liar and that this petition would force the 'poor' publishers and devs to support the games forever (which is a lie). He refused to talk with Ross and basically told Ross to 'eat his ass'. He continued making these videos to mess with the campaign and gathered support from the only other people who were against the campaign: Redditors, who were hostile towards the campaign from the very beginning.

Now public opinion has turned against Pirate Software, and instead of saying he's wrong or sorry, he decided to say that Ross is making people attack him and people related to him (both lies), and that he is sad now. He also tried to first say again that the campaign would still fail, but he deleted that tweet.

I think it's more or less reflective of the political climate in Latin America at the time. Álvaro Colom was elected around the peak of the first Pink Tide, when even Paraguay had a Christian Socialist, Fernando Lugo, as president, supported by the Center-Left Factionf of the Colorados and the Liberals (the Blue Party that supports China instead of Taiwan).

Bernardo Arévalo was elected during the peak of the current Pink Tide/Second Pink Tide, when there were multiple electoral victories over the massive failure of Conservative governments in handling the Covid-19 crisis.

Russia becomes the first country to formally recognize Taliban’s latest rule in Afghanistan - AP News

Article

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia on Thursday became the first country to formally recognize the Taliban’s government in Afghanistan since it seized power in 2021, after Moscow removed the group from its list of outlawed organizations.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it had received credentials from Afghanistan’s newly appointed Ambassador Gul Hassan Hassan. The official recognition of the Afghan government will foster “productive bilateral cooperation between our countries,” the ministry said in a statement.

Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry called it a historic step, and quoted Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi as welcoming the decision as “a good example for other countries.”

The Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021 following the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces. Since then, they have sought international recognition while also enforcing their strict interpretation of Islamic law.

While no country had formally recognized the Taliban administration until now, the group had engaged in high-level talks with many nations and established some diplomatic ties with countries including China and the United Arab Emirates.

Still, the Taliban government has been relatively isolated on the world stage, largely over its restrictions on women.

Although the Taliban initially promised a more moderate rule than during their first stint in power from 1996 to 2001, it started to enforce restrictions on women and girls soon after the 2021 takeover. Women are barred from most jobs and public places, including parks, baths and gyms, while girls are banned from education beyond sixth grade.

Russian officials have recently been emphasizing the need to engage with the Taliban to help stabilize Afghanistan, and lifted a ban on the Taliban group in April.

Brazilian Hugo Calderano, professional table tennis player, was barred from the Grand Smash in Las Vegas. He traveled to Cuba in 2023 to compete in the Pan-American Games, which, according to US rules, makes him ineligible to enter with a visa waiver. Even with Portuguese citizenship, he was denied an ESTA. He ran for an emergency visa and support from American organizations, but couldn't get an interview in time.

The tournament starts this Friday and Hugo is out. In the best phase of his career, World Cup champion, World Championship silver medalist and WTT gold medalist in Slovenia, the Brazilian missed out on one of the biggest competitions in table tennis.

Brandon was such a POS that he didn't reverse most of Trump's policy against Cuba, both Biden and Trump destroyed the agreement Obama had with Cuba. And for some reason Biden decided to attack Nicaragua, which lead to Ortega breaking relations with Taiwan and becoming an ally of China in Latin America.

No idea honestly, I guess they really want Trump to be a generic dictator and dictatorships = no elections, at least in the mind of many USians.

Guatemala’s right-wing is deeply entrenched more than the US and we still have elections

Mexico and Paraguay were dictatorships (Paraguay still sort of is tbh), and both still had ""elections"".

Star Wars actor Kenneth Colley dies aged 87 - BBC

Star Wars actor Kenneth Colley has died at the age of 87, his agent has announced.

The film and television performer is best known for starring in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi as Admiral Piett, an imperial officer in command of Darth Vader's flagship. He died peacefully at his home in Ashford, Kent, on Monday after contracting Covid and developing pneumonia, his agent Julian Owen said in a statement.

"Ken Colley was one of our finest character actors with a career spanning 60 years," Mr Owens said.

"Ken continually worked on stage, film and television playing a vast array of characters, from Jesus in Monty Python's Life of Brian to evil and eccentric characters in Ken Russell films, and the Duke of Vienna in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure for the BBC."

The statement said Colley had been admitted to hospital with an injured arm after a fall, but he quickly contracted Covid which developed into pneumonia. He died with friends at his bedside, it added.

In later years, Colley reprised his role of Admiral Piett when he voiced the character in the 2012 animated Lego production, Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out.

He also had parts in international productions including Clint Eastwood's Firefox and the Second World War series War and Remembrance. Mr Owen said Colley's paticipation in Star Wars led him to being invited to conventions and fan events all over the world.

"Ken also loved his garden, art collecting and had a passion for fast cars," he added. Colley is also known for playing Jesus in Monty Python's Life of Brian alongside John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Michael Palin.

Stop Killing Games Initiative Reaches 1,000,000 Signatures

To the delight of gamers and video game preservation enthusiasts worldwide, YouTuber Ross Scott's Stop Killing Games petition has finally reached 1,000,000 signatures after gaining enormous momentum over the past few days and breaking several hundred-thousand milestones at breakneck speed.

For context, the appeal was directed at the European Commission, which is required to address any petition that reaches 1 million signatures. The campaign challenges the practice of video game developers delisting and discontinuing games at will without issuing refunds to the players or at the very least preserving the titles as single-player experiences that wouldn't entail any server hosting-related costs.

With the petition now boasting the coveted million, Ross will have the opportunity to present the initiative to the European Commission and speak at a public hearing in the European Parliament, thus greatly increasing the chances of the movement's core objective – forcing game studios to leave games in a playable state – becoming law in the EU.

"The site says we have cleared 1 million signatures! I hate being like this, but there's a chance a significant number of them aren't real. That means we have to keep signing in overdrive mode to make up for them! I'll have a video on this later today." - Ross
