"Is that a bottle in your lap, or are you just happy to see me?".

[–] Spitz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

One of the great things about Lemmy is that you can control your user experience. No algorithms, no "suggestions" being forced on you, no ads, no data mining, no spez/Musk/Zuck. So curate my Lemmy space heavily and enjoy the peace and quiet and slow pace. R*ddit was my only social media for years so Lemmy is similar enough to that to be familiar and useful, but different enough to be worth using.

I couldn't get a recording or pick out any lyrics because it was in a supermarket and there was a lot of background noise. But if you've heard the song, I think the title might be enough. It had a very sparse instrumentation, drums fairly prominent, male singer, very strong melody.

I'm using this one tomorrow at work!

Yes, I got that. But how do you connect to them?

[–] Spitz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Also, I know it's typed out somewhere, but I can't find it and couldn't understand it anyway. Could someone explain to me as if I'm technologically useless and just a bit dense generally, how to connect with communities on other instances? Something about copying links and pasting them somewhere? I'm on jerboa if that means anything.

"it's a great honor to be here with you today" yadda yadda...

Answer 13 or so questions with a really pissy corporate tone.

Then just vanish without telling anyone the AMA is actually finished. What a guy.

Before their latest album, I was something of a casual Metallica fan. I liked a handful of their songs, and considered the rest of their songs to be recycled versions of their songs that I liked.

Then St Anger happened. I thought they were maybe getting too old to keep raging like hormone-driven teenagers, maybe they should start releasing c&w albums or something.

Then 72 Seasons came along and blew my tiny little mind.

I'm not massively keen on every song, but (imo) there are no weak songs on this album. It has a different energy, they tried different approaches to lyrics, soloing, drumming etc, while incorporating those fresh ideas into their established sound.

My personal favs off the album are Lux Æterna and Inamorata. Such great energy and great messages! My boss at work loves Inamorata so my colleagues tolerate it, but they are sick to death of Lux Æterna (I had it on repeat for a long while).

So that's my Metallica story. What's yours?

Out of all the AMAs reddit has done, that was certainly one of them.

Pretty much everything has a bit of lag on my end. Not complaining, I understand why, just letting you know.

It seems a bit laggy to me, but that's hardly surprising. I hope we can form a good little community of outsiders here! 👍
