In deep red Montana, debate on two anti-trans bills were heard yesterday, one that would ban drag performances in front of children (i.e. target transgender people walking their kids to school) and another that would require the state to take transgender children away from their parents.

Transgender Representatives Zephyr and Howell gave absolutely incredibly moving speeches and flipped 29 Republican votes, half of the seats they hold, killing the bills.  Wow!

Read the full article here. There is a link to videos of both speeches made by Reps. Zephyr and Howell.

Clearly we need to get more transgender reps elected, especially in red states where we are the most vulnerable. How do we do that? Serious question - I know nothing about it.

UPDATE - HOW TO GET INVOLVED IN POLITICS

As pointed out in the comments, Representative Zephyr made a Bluesky post inviting people to contact her, offering to setup a time to chat about how to take the first steps.

Other advice from the comments -

Getting involved with transrights activism is a great first step. You can find a list of trans advocacy organizations here, you can then build a platform to get the volunteers and the funding you need to get elected.

Is it fucked up of me to not want to come out to my family unless I have a partner, and we are as secure as getting married, and that’s when I want to come out?

My ex who is white and not Muslim was hurt by my reasoning, and I just feel a little guilty.

For context, Queer Armorer is a left-wing guntuber, and I for one really like her videos.

But everytime I share her content on here or the Socialist Rifle Association subreddit, I get downvoted, with no explanation.

Is there some drama or bad take from her that I’m not aware of?

I really like her “How To Buy A Gun” video.

I think that it’s a great introductory video for aspiring LGBT/Leftist gun owners.

I know that should be obvious but I somehow managed to not realized it until I was actually getting dressed and then had to suddenly decide between fashion and safety which was rather frustrating. I just thought yall could probably apreciate the humor of the situation 😂

I live right across the Mississippi from this cancerous, pigshit stained backwater.

Covid Kim the governor will undoubtedly sign off on it.

Wondering if this could be used to prevent trans/NB gun ownership down the road.

TLDR: I just need to know if anything else is needed. Essentially, the basic question is what all do I need to obtain a 1911 and CPL legally in Michigan.

Hello all and good morning/evening depending on where you are. I've been a lurker on this subreddit for quite some time and I now have a question that I am unable to answer. Due to recent events coming to light within The United States, I would like to arm myself. My friend has been helping me with what she can, but she I have exhausted her ability to answer any of my questions. So I figured I'd come here. I turned 21last yr, I know that in order to obtain a pisto and CPL l you have to be 21 in the state of Michigan. What else is required to obtain a pistol? If it helps the pistol I'm going to get that's my EDC. It's a 45 1911 GI spec….Yes it's a big gun… but I have big hands unfortunately and the 1911 is the only thing that feels comfortable when I hold it. I just don't exactly know what all is necessary to obtain the firearm. I've done research. I've done reading and it's just very confusing from what I've read.

What I know: I know that I need to buy the gun online and pay for it. It gets shipped over to a license dealer.

I then go there and do a background check.
