Not being shown ads is always an option.
Get an adblocker. ublock origin for PC and android firefox is great. Adaway on android blocks most ads from other apps. And I don't use apple products, but I've heard Adguard works there.
Cheap license sites (windows, games, etc) usually use keys bought via stolen credit cards. Pirating it is much better than buying from those sites, including for the devs that get punished for chargebacks from those keys.

Overall users? Probably not. The casual lurker does not know or care what an API is.
But the vast majority of content is made by a tiny fraction of the user base, and that fraction are the ones they pissed off. The quality of posts on large subs very much went down, with repost bots becoming even more prominent than before.

Fun fact: There is a way to save Alfira.
Once you meet the conditions for her to show up in your camp (usually when you trigger the auto-save after crossing the bridge between the Grove and Blighted Village), head back to the grove before Alfira shows up at camp, and knock her out by using a melee attack while the non-lethal passive toggle is enabled. If you can, do it in a single attack so you don't lose approval or get the guards summoned. If she's unable to make it to camp, there's a rather amusing replacement that shows up instead to be slaughtered by the Durge. The replacement normally shows up if Alfira is dead, but by knocking her out, she's fine and you can do Alfira's later quests.
The Replacement
Quill Grootslang is a silver dragonborn bard, and her throat singing is amazing. She's even more over the top than Alfira, in a horror movie this-character-is-so-going-to-die sort of way. Never shows up anywhere else, so no missed content with her.
Also it’s very funny when someone says something very stupid and is met with a giant picture of a pig shitting on its own balls.
Ehh, most instances would reasonably call that out as trolling. PPB is the opposite of a good faith argument.
