Holy shit so no more Zero Punctuation? He was like half of that channel. Wow this came from nowhere.

Especially when they're in trouble for corruption charges and making sweeping changes to their country's justice system to help themselves at the detriment of their democracy?

Not only the resentment but Israel actually helped their worst elements gain power in order to cause an inner conflict within the Palestinians. They supported Hamas's growth to cause a fissure between them and the PLO.

I agree, but we can't even fund the fucking government as long as the Republicans control the House.

Is Netflix's One Piece good? (links.dartboard.social)
submitted 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) by VentraSqwal@links.dartboard.social to c/moviesandtv@lemmy.film

Just wondering what people who have watched Netflix's new One Piece series think.

They don't have the greatest track record with anime adaptions so I'm afraid to watch it. I thought Cowboy Bebop was alright. Although they kind of butchered Vicious and Julia, imo, the people who played Spike and Jet did well enough that it was able to sustain my interest for awhile but not long enough to finish it. Death Note was barely like the original at all. The only good thing I can say was Lakeith Stanfield's L portrayal and Willem Dafoe's Ryuk.

But this series seems to be trending, so maybe they've finally done it?

Inspired by another answer in this thread, Kung Fu Hustle. It's also a pretty good Kung Fu movie, similar to how Shawn of the Dead manages to be both a comedy and a pretty good zombie movie.

That seems to be the growing consensus on some of the biggest instances. Hopefully they start prioritizing that, or some other nice dev who knows Rust will. Maybe I need to start brushing up on it lol.

They just don't want Trump to be the only one impeached. They want it to mean nothing, so they're probably going to try impeaching every Democratic President forever now.

I thought this was a really well written article actually. Conservatives know what they're doing, they don't need to hear this. They don't care, they just want their religion to be law, and the first amendment to be abolished. Other people need to know what the conservatives are doing so we can fight back against it or at least know they're arguing in court in bad faith.

Not sure whether to post this to here or !PS5@lemmy.world, so I'll just start with here then cross post if that's a thing Lemmy can do.

So my fiancée brought over some old Battlestar Galactica blu-rays. This one basically. And it seems to only output in stereo 2.0 LCPM. The only suggestion I've seen is to change the settings in the Blu-ray Audio Output menu to either PCM or Bitstream, but I've done that and nothing has changed. Also changed it in the normal settings menu to AV Amplifier and LPCM or Dolby, and neither has done anything. Now, it is being output through a soundbar that doesn't accept DTS or DTS:HD (the Bose 600), which is fine that it changes to PCM, but you think it would at least change to PCM 5.1 instead of stereo PCM 2.0.

After searching around the internet, I saw people suggest PS3 or Xbox Series X, which can apparently downmix DTS to Dolby Digital 5.1. I don't have an Xbox, but I do have a PS3, so I tried that out and sure enough, after spending like 30 seconds messing with settings, and playing the blu-ray, I'm getting that LPCM 5.1 as the output audio format and it all sounds so much better. There's an actual center channel so I can understand characters, and the surrounds are being used, etc. Apparently if I could find an optical output cable I can probably even get it to Dolby Digital 5.1, too, but not sure if that's worth buying an extra cable for. LPCM 5.1 is a little quiet, but otherwise sounds fine.

So, what's the deal? Is the PS5 a worse blu-ray player than the PS3 or Xbox Series X? That doesn't make any sense. I'd prefer if I could play old BDs through my PS5 to keep 4k capabilities, as it does look a little worse visually on my PS3, but they sound so much better that I'll probably keep using it for now.

Tl;dr: Does anyone know how to get PS5 to output Blu-ray DTS audio as LPCM 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 instead of defaulting to 2.0?

It's a very insidious way to make the country more like Russia, where there's so much propaganda there is no objective truth, words have no meaning, and rule of law of even more nebulous.

Can they get Twitter, too? Obstruction of justice or messing with evidence or something like that?

[-] VentraSqwal@links.dartboard.social 35 points 10 months ago

They worked like an organized crime family. They were focused on secrecy, loyalty, destroyed lots of evidence, broke laws all over the place, and used patsies and "won't someone rid me of this meddlesome priest" language all over the place. I'm sure he learned it all from his old buddy Roy Cohn. I hope we saw some consequences from this scum bringing this criminal behavior into the White House so blatantly and messing with our already fragile democracy.

I know a lot of people on Reddit have a hate boner for Anthony Mackie because of Altered Carbon s2, and it had a pretty terrible teaser trailer, but I just spent my weekend watching the whole show and, to my surprise, I've had a lot of fun.

Now, don't come looking for deep philosophical questions or high art, this is no HBO drama like the Last of Us. Twisted Metal (up to Black, never played that one or past it) has never really been about the world-building or story, it's always been about the characters and cars, each with over the top nicknames and gimmicks.

If you can accept that and want a crazy road trip romp littered with violence, comedy, as well as some surprising chemistry and heart from the leads, Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz; or if you ever wanted to see the Twisted Metal mascot Sweet Tooth brought to life in the best way possible (an insane murderous clown that manages to separate himself from the Joker or Pennywise thanks to the surprisingly effective combo of Samoa Joe's physicality and Will Arnett's voice) then this show is for you.

I hope others had a good time, too, or will if they watch it after this. I'm sure some people hated it, but if you go in knowing what you're watching, or have a fondness of the atmosphere of the original games, where it was violent but still funny and light, you can just strap in and enjoy the ride.

False claims suggesting that the BBC has been misreporting temperatures in southern Europe have been spreading on social media.

A clip of Neil Oliver, a GB News presenter, accusing the BBC "and others" of "driving fear" by using "supposedly terrifying temperatures", has been viewed more than two million times.

For the past few weeks, an intense heatwave has been sweeping through parts of southern Europe and north Africa, with extensive wildfires breaking out in Greece, Italy and Algeria - leading to more than 40 deaths.

Speaking about the fires on Rhodes on GB News on Monday, Mr Oliver accused the BBC, and other broadcasters, of trying to "make people terrified of the weather".

I've used the megathread to make a super basic proof-of-concept for my own streaming setup, and I'm not sure where to prioritize upgrading first and in what way. Any help is appreciated!

Current setup: I got a subscription to a VPN, so I figure I'll use that until it runs out. I have that with my main PC (a laptop, I haven't been able to save for a proper gaming PC yet), a torrent client, and Plex. I tested it out with one TV show and one movie with the Plex app on my TCL Series 4 Roku TV and it seems to work! The video and audio quality work even better when I turn my VPN off and it can tell my server is "nearby", but whatever.

Possible Improvements I've Seen People Talk About: I figure I should split off some of these services from my main laptop. I don't really want to keep it on 24/7, and I should save the room on it for games and other projects. I'll put things I've seen people talk about below, but not sure what order to do stuff to make the best Netflix replacement.

  • I can buy another smaller machine or two I can use as a server. Not sure whether to put the torrent parts on it, so it can torrent while I'm at work and stuff, make it host the Plex server, or both. And even then, I'm not sure whether to use an NAS, raspberry pi, NUC, Nvidia Shield TV Pro, buy or find an old cheap laptop, a ThinkClient I saw another post suggest, etc. I need something super small and quiet because I am splitting a small place right now. Should I get 2? One to torrent things while I'm gone and one to host Plex, or can I put them on the same machine?

  • Or should I start improving other parts of the torrenting and streaming experience? I've seen people mention Sonarr, Radarr, and other applications that I haven't experimented with yet.

  • Or should I just port all of this into a seedbox hosted by someone else even though I have the VPN subscription for awhile longer? It would clear up some room but I'd hate to be tied to a subscription.

  • I know I'll also need to buy more storage soon to make it a viable library, too.

What do you all think should prioritize next?

According to reports, producers expect writers will run out of money, possibly lose their homes and be forced to come to bargaining table. Producers denied these reports.

That's so horrible, threatening people's homes. Just the fact that they have enough money to try to wait it out while some writers are borrowing suits for their award shows proves the imbalance of profits, and it proves their point: that the studios should be able to pay the creators and workers if they weren't so greedy and paying their execs millions of dollars to remove shows from existence and say they're business geniuses.

Does anyone know if there's a way to donate or support the unions if it ends up coming down to people's homes and stuff being on the line?

App That Saves My Spot? (links.dartboard.social)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) by VentraSqwal@links.dartboard.social to c/lemmyapps@lemmy.world

I'm mostly loving Liftoff, especially the UI once I messed with some appearance settings, but one thing that bothers me is that whenever I switch to another app or press the Overview button on my Android, it'll reload back to my default view instead of going back to the post I was working with or reading.

When I used to use RIF, it was pretty good about saving what I was doing. I could switch between writing a post and Google searching to fact-check myself pretty seamlessly, for example. Or open a post, write a longer reply in another note-taking app, then switch back to the post in RIF and paste my comment. If I tried that in Liftoff, the app would reload and I'd find myself back at the top of the feed.

Does anyone know if there is an Android app that saves my spot better like that? Maybe my phone just sucks lol.

Anyone know if there's any good Prime Day Deals for Boardgames Today? Or have any recommendations on a board game they see for sale today?

There are starting to become so many for Android and Apple, it would be nice to have a community on news and updates for them, comparing them, finding the right one, etc. This is in addition to the individual communities they should all have.
