I wouldn't dismiss it just yet. They have a pretty large userbase on Instagram, FB and WhatsApp. Once Thread is feature complete, they can start promoting it agressively and drive up engagement.

It's a dumb hill to die anyway. Their main opponent is the one hoarding exclusives, and maintaining a monopoly. Maybe FTC should've stepped in during GitHub / LinkedIn acquisition? Or when they were staking in OpenAI?

No mass market phone will come without selfie camera. And any special purpose phones will be too expensive. Maybe just buy one without notch and put a tape on it?
