Capitalists now: "Here is your 26 megajoule cupcake!"

Capitalists a year later: "Here is your insulin subscription, only $299/month!"

No birthright citizenship in a country founded and inhabited almost entirely by immigrants, with no mandatory national ID? Yeah that's gonna be a shitshow and a half.

Man, I'm getting old. I don't understand why all jokes have to be fake twitter screenshots now.

Sorry, I've been a vegan for long enough that I don't remember the names for all the animal bits, even in my native tongue let alone english :)

The really offensive part is having >2 liters of milk, per person, in a work fridge. What the fuck do you need so much for? I bet that fridge smells like a mix of spoiled milk and utter distrust for other human beings.

It should work. The only practical issues are:

  • Usually, you will have to manually install the proprietary drivers (I think Fedora makes this relatively easy)
  • Wayland (the protocol most desktop environmentss use nowadays) support may be hit-and-miss at times (it will mostly work but it's not as polished as with Intel/AMD), and Proton (the thing that lets you play Windows games) may not play well either.

The ideological issue (which you probably don't care about) is that it pretty much requires proprietary (non-FOSS) drivers which run in kernel space and so in theory have complete access to all data on your computer (but then so does Intel ME). This is the main reason I personally will never use NVidia cards.

While I'm usually all for Free software (as opposed to open-source software),

His problem is the exact reason GPL was created.

Nah, his problem is that Microsoft has much billions of dollars and so doesn't give a fuck about any licenses on projects by small developers. They simply ignored even the terms of the MIT license (which required MS to keep the original copyright notice, which they didn't). GPL would've done squat here since it also allows for forking (by design), but also because the US legal system is cooked, and people don't have many rights left when it comes to a dispute with a corpo.

Do I just bounce or shop together?

Depends on the store size, I guess, I usually bounce

What happens if I see them again in the store?

Don't acknowledge it, you've already said hello

Thanks, I enjoyed it :)

Even though I'm an introvert, I love running into people I know while shopping. It's usually a short interaction (we're both there to get food and not socialize) and it's nice to see a familiar face.

I think it's a bit confusing, but in my view almost all socialists (including democratic socialists) are communists since the end goal they are trying to achieve is communism. Socialism (which can be described as welfare state, majority-publicly owned capital, and planned or market-socialist economy) is almost always seen as a stepping stone towards communism (stateless, classless, moneyless society), even though it is would also be an improvement on its own.

(to confuse matters even further, Lenin's party was initially called Russian Social-Democratic Labour Party, even though today's understanding of social-democracy would only apply to the Menshevik wing).
