The population wants and needs more housing, that's been a fact for quite some time now. Adding way more supply to the market should help house prices, albeit a small amount. We're already seeing the average price start to drop in real terms.

I'd be interested to see where those 600,000 houses are and what condition they're in and if they're suitable for modern families.

I'd have to guess it's to disincentives illegal immigrants coming into the country.

I get the optics of it to be honest. We're constantly being told there's not enough money for essential services, there's housing shortages and so on, but then people can come here and get housed, receive money etc. It's probably also a tough pill to swallow when they're coming from safe countries.

This is absolutely what's driving the popularity of Reform, and will continue to do so.

I was 13 when I had my first job (paper round) and then 15 when I worked in a pub kitchen. The pub job was a great laugh! They definitely made me appreciate the value of money and work.

The only realistic option without performing any cuts is to increase the retirement age. Pensions are something like 50% of the welfare costs. Even then it probably won't be enough.
