I genuinely believe (but it might be hopium) that Trump is too narcissistic to want his image tied to another disastrous military quagmire. Which puts Israel in a seriously sticky situation. Even if they exit the conflict with their tails between their legs, the perception of their regional power will be diminished. The idea that a country can make Israel bleed, even if only a little bit, without getting levelled by the United States is novel, and perhaps world-changing in the grander scheme.

Watch this be wrong and Trump declares a boots on the ground disaster in the next twenty-four hours.

Israel isn't backing down from its aggression, so I suppose the question is, if Iran limits their retaliation to Israel, does that prevent full-throated American entry? That has been the case so far, but if the interceptors run out and the casualties start to rack up...
