It did it first on my PC, then it happened again on my laptop. That is when I investigated the cause and found out BTRFS corrupts on hard shutdowns/failures. Beyond maybe a UPS battery backup that will allow you to MAYBE have some extra time to shut down properly before the battery fails, no. I would highly recommend backing up your data and reformatting to ext4.

Are you using BTRFS as your file structure? If so, this is the little dirty secret the BTRFS fans don't like to discuss. It is well documented in the BTRFS wiki, that during power-outages/power fails, even OS errors, files become corrupt under BTRFS. I finally had enough of this happening to me (lots of power outages where I live,) and switched back to ext4, never had this issue again.

Edited post to include a couple of documentaries.

It is in the body of the post.

There are plenty of older documentaries, mostly mainstream posted on Youtube about this case. Here are a couple to view, one by an influencer, the other a mainstream media with interviews, dubbed in English.

I suppose it would have given a new meaning, or a different understanding, of the chaos in the film. Come to think of it (been a long time since I have seen the film) I can't remember if there was a slant to any one religion injected in the film. Seems like it was very vaguely worded, 'passing over to the other side,' 'angry spirits,' and the 'beast.'

Judge rules Epstein grand jury records will remain sealed ABC News 3โ€“4 minutes

The records were related to grand juries convened in West Palm Beach.

A federal judge in Florida denied a Justice Department request to unseal grand jury records tied to federal investigations into Epstein, according to a public order released Wednesday.

The request is one of three made by the Justice Department to judges in New York and Florida seeking to unseal records from federal investigations into Epstein.

According to the order by District Judge Robin Rosenberg, the records the department sought to unseal related to grand juries convened in West Palm Beach in 2005 and 2007 that had investigated Epstein.

Judge Rosenberg faulted the Justice Department for failing to outline sufficient arguments to justify the unsealing of the records, which are normally protected under strict secrecy rules.

Rosenberg's opinion states her "hands are tied" given existing precedent in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals which only permits the disclosure of such grand jury materials under narrow exceptions.

She further denied a request to transfer the issue into the jurisdiction of the Southern District of New York, where two judges are separately mulling over similar motions from the department seeking to unseal grand jury records tied to Epstein and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

A Justice Department spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the order.

Meanwhile, a federal judge in New York denied Ghislaine Maxwell's request to review grand jury testimony related to Epstein.

"It is black-letter law that defendants generally are not entitled to access to grand jury materials," U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer wrote.

Maxwell's lawyers requested access to the sensitive grand jury records to determine if Maxwell would take a position on the records' release.

Judge Engelmayer wrote that there is no "compelling necessity" for Maxwell to review the records. An objection from Maxwell into unsealing the records could further complicate the process of potentially releasing the records.

"She has not shown, or attempted to show, that the grand jury materials in her case are apt to reveal any deficiency in the proceedings leading to her indictment," he wrote.

Judge Engelmayer noted that he plans to "expeditiously" review the transcripts himself and would consider providing an excerpt or synopsis to Maxwell's lawyers.

Julian LeFay, 'Father of The Elder Scrolls,' Has Died Aged 59, a Week After Stepping Back From Game Development Due to Cancer - IGN By Tom PhillipsUpdated: Jul 23, 2025 9:07 amPosted: Jul 23, 2025 5:37 am 3โ€“4 minutes "His strength, determination, and unwavering focus inspire us all."

UPDATE: Bethesda has now issued a statement on the passing of Julian LeFay, describing its former chief engineer as "the driving force in the creation of The Elder Scrolls and the foundations of Bethesda as a game studio".

"Without Julian, we would not be here today," Bethesda wrote, in an update shared on social media. "If you had the opportunity to work with Julian, you were blessed to know a one-of-a-kind force of nature, who pushed everyone to create something special.

"His work and spirit will live on both in our memories and in our games."

ORIGINAL STORY: Julian LeFay, Bethesda's former chief engineer known among fans as the 'Father of The Elder Scrolls' series, has died aged 59.

It was announced last week that LeFay, now co-founder and technical producer at OnceLost Games, had stepped back from game development after a lengthy battle with cancer, in order to spend time with his family and loved ones.

A statement from OnceLost Games, published today, has now confirmed LeFay's passing โ€” "with profound sadness and heavy hearts".

"Julian LeFay was not just a colleague โ€” he was a visionary who fundamentally shaped the gaming industry as we know it today," OnceLost Games' statement reads. "Known as the 'Father of The Elder Scrolls', Julian directed the creation of legendary titles including Elder Scrolls 1 and 2: Arena, Daggerfall, and Battlespire.

"His pioneering work established the foundation for open-world RPGs and influenced countless developers and games that followed." null Julian LeFay. Image credit: Shae Jensen/Julian LeFay.

Born in Denmark in 1965, LeFay began his career working on early Amiga and NES games, before becoming one of Bethesda's earliest employees in 1987.

After working on a string of Elder Scrolls titles, his career next took him to Sega, and then ultimately to found OnceLost Games in 2019 to develop a new open-world RPG, Wayward Realms, that was successfully pitched on Kickstarter as a Daggerfall spiritual successor.

"Throughout his courageous battle with cancer, Julian never wavered in his passion for The Wayward Realms," OnceLost Games' statement continues. "Even during his illness, he continued to share his vision with our team, mentor our developers, and ensure that every aspect of the game reflected his commitment to creating something truly extraordinary. His strength, determination, and unwavering focus inspire us all."

Development on The Wayward Realms will now continue under the guidance of fellow former Bethesda veteran and OnceLost Games co-founder Ted Peterson, the studio concluded, with its team "more committed than ever to bringing The Wayward Realms to life exactly as Julian envisioned it".

Loved this series, it really picks up after ep 1 and takes off. The question is, will Netflix renew it for a season 2? No word yet.
