I’m probably the last person that should be answering this, just getting into espresso myself, but you can buy a mesh filter that goes between the espresso and the machine. They’re pretty inexpensive and can help protect the screen from making contact with your puck. I believe they’re also supposed to help with water distribution?

I’m so sorry, sending love your way. People can change, and it may take you moving on from them and finding more loving and supportive community for that time happen, but it’s not something you can/should be expected to force. You deserve supportive people in your life! They’re out there and ready to accept you with open arms ❤️

It’s the same reason my complex can force me to pay $100 for Xfinity while my neighbor pays $30 for the exact same service (because they’re in a house).
