Disclaimer I've never done it myself but I've looked into it in the past. It doesn't seem like its too overly complicated. Just be sure to check out their features per device when deciding which surface to go with: https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface/wiki/Supported-Devices-and-Features#feature-matrix

You could get a surface and install your favorite flavor yourself: https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface

I think federation of city/state focused instances would be ideal. Perhaps with Beehaw at the center. A hub and spoke model, if you will. in c/chat@beehaw.org

I think it could be a good idea. Personally, I'm not much interested in a local specific online forum. I've used Nextdoor before and it feels a little too close to me, too much of a location specific echo chamber. That may be because I'm not in a larger town though 😅 I could definitely see some desire for it though.
