We’re cooked. We were defeated by extreme inequality.

I had an internship 15 years ago where I was forced to write C++ with no internet access. I had to use a programming manual and man pages.

“The issue can only be leveraged with specific configurations using the Host or Host_Alias directives, which are commonly used in enterprise environments,” Stratascale warned.

“The issue arises from allowing an unprivileged user to invoke chroot() on a writable, untrusted path under their control. Sudo calls chroot() several times, regardless of whether the user has corresponding Sudo rule configured,” Stratascale explained.

Although it’s classed only as a low-severity bug, users are urged to update to Sudo 1.9.17p1 or later to mitigate the issue.

I wonder if they're going to start cancelling shows after the first half of the season.

As a remedy, the NHSTA’s recall report notes, Nissan and Infiniti dealers will inspect the engine pan of these-now recalled cars — and repair or replace the engine if necessary.

But your shit quality process already admits that failure is progressive. What are you going to do for customers who get a failure years later because of your bad manufacturing?

Answer: nothing!

I love how in this timeline you can’t say it wasn’t ICE.

  • Android 16 now supports cloud compilation, a new feature that could speed up new app installs.
  • The goal of cloud compilation is to avoid running the dex2oat tool during app installations by offloading compilation to the cloud.
  • Dex2oat takes an APK file and generates app artifact files that the Android Runtime loads. Depending on the device and the amount of code to compile, this could take some time.

It looks like the ART (Android Runtime) JIT is playing an increasingly less important role with time.

Friendly reminder that the cloud is just someone else's computer.

  • An Android Authority app teardown has revealed that Google is working on an inactivity reboot feature.
  • This security feature would reboot devices if they’ve been locked for three consecutive days.
  • This will likely be part of Android 16’s Advanced Protection Mode, which also blocks sideloading, disables 2G connections, and more.

Google can't make a move in 2025 without veering into the realm of generative AI, and the release of the Pixel 9a is no exception. Curiously, the AI experience on this phone may not match what you've seen from the company's high-end smartphones. Google has confirmed to Ars that the phone's lower memory prevented it from implementing the full suite of Pixel AI features. You can still talk to Gemini by holding the power button or opening the Gemini app, but the on-device Gemini Nano model has seen a downgrade on the 9a.
