You are not alone. I tend to be the “sorry I can’t do anything today I scheduled an appointment four days from now” kind of person. Meds have helped but still takes effort to be like “I seriously do not need two hours or more to prepare to go to the fucking dentist.”

Amazing game. I have a bit of a rant to go on about certain a character’s actions.

Tap for spoilerThe way Simon reacts to basically everything hurts me, especially his comments after a certain kind of suicide.

Do any of you who’ve played it actually relate to Simon like not getting the memo and being a fucking dick to Cathrine?

Like I probably would have been scared out of my mind by the fucking monsters, but I’ve thought about transhumanism before so the way the brain scan stuff works did not and would not phase me.

The game is beautiful and terrifying but like god damn I wish I could choose the dialog options. Simon needs to calm down and shut up sometimes.

Freaking out about the unspeakable horrors in the depths would have been fine.

Freaking out because you didn’t ask enough questions to comprehend what was going on and then blaming your only friend who is trapped in this hell with you is not okay.

Sure Catherine is able to do some stuff without conscience but you’re a complete moron and a dick Simon and that’s worse, especially in a situation like this.

Wow we’re getting close to cyberpunk 2077 if the police are actually adding “slander against a corporate rep” to a criminal’s rap sheet

Wouldn’t that basically just be graphite?

Oh I hear that kind of stuff too! And like the charger blocks for phones and things, and everyone thinks I’m insane.

Some days I can stand it or don’t even notice but other days it’s the auditory equivalent of sandpaper on my brain.

The other day, my mind decided to let me smell the entire fucking universe all at once for the whole day. I literally almost broke down on the train to school because there was too much going on. Yeah, I don’t think I’ve recovered yet and probably won’t because it’s finals week…

Do you have a source for cost comparison? Not doubting you just curious if it’s intuition or if there’s a spec on how much Oreshnik costs, THAAD definitely is hella expensive.

But oreshnik is certainly more expensive than non hypersonic options. So your point with Ukraine is kind of a counter argument. If the need for hypersonic is to avoid interception by advanced systems, and Ukraine has none of those systems, why waste the better weapons in a situation where they’re unnecessary?

I suppose Ukraine has been able to shoot down Russia’s other hypersonic missiles (Kinzhals) with just patriots so maybe this is Russia stepping up its game to try and counter those? Still seems like overkill to me but this whole topic is rather new to me so it’s likely I’m missing context.

Tell me when you do! I’ve never really looked into this stuff before, but trying to find the right plane lead me down a bit of an interesting rabbit hole engineering wise. I’d imagine it’ll be the same no matter what country made the plane I’m looking into.

Actually if you all already have Chinese planes you think are cool you should comment them here so I can look them up instead of working on my final projects lol. Bonus points if the shape of the jet is weird because the shape is that way for a reason, and that reason is usually interesting physics.

I’m not an expert but I thought the US tested those in like the 70s and decided they weren’t very practical for US needs. In most cases, regular missiles work perfectly fine, why pay more for the same functionality?

I assume much of the current push in the US to create them is because other nations have been showing them off, not out of need.

As I understand it, the perks of hypersonics over typical missiles is the ability to fly below radar and maneuver fast enough to avoid being intercepted.

Also, Oreshnik can be intercepted by THAAD which is not even that cutting edge. I’d image the American military would prefer taking the time to develop something that can at least pose a challenge to their basic, standard missile defense system.

The myths surrounding Prometheus are my favorite

  • He was willing to risk eternal torment just to share knowledge and/or further science, saying “fuck you” to Zeus
  • Somehow the ancient Greeks knew that your liver is one of the few organs that can regenerate… somehow…
  • His name possibly means “forethought” and he’s basically Athena and Hephaestus combined, literally the deity of technology and champion of mankind. What isn’t to love?
  • He is saved from his eternal torment by Zeus’s own half human son Heracles, so it’s kind of like humanity repaid the favor and also said “fuck you” to god

The least favorite is Medusa because Athena literally punishes the victim of a rapist.

Technically I think the version of the story with rape was only described in Roman myths. However, even in the Greek ones she’s somehow the only mortal gorgon and is pregnant with Poseidon. So It seems very possible the origins of that Roman story were in Greek myths we don’t have written records of.

She was portrayed sympathetically in some of the Greek stories, which aids the idea that the version in which she is a victim predates the Roman writings. In a few of the Greek myths she is still portrayed as a maiden rather than inhuman monster, oh yeah and in those versions Perseus beheads while she’s sleeping, cause I guess killing sleeping women makes you a hero?

No emotions are communicable as emotions are qualia. However you can describe an experience or experiences that give you similar emotions, and if the other person feels quallia for those experiences they will assume you have the same.

Is your red the same as mine? We cannot ever say. But does your red happen when you see something I’d also call red? Most likely (unless you’re color blind).

The same is true of emotions. Maybe when you lose a loved one, you feel the feeling I do when I’ve accidentally hurt someone in a way I feel I can’t undo. Both are pain, but we will never know if the pain we feel for any specific experiences are the same because all feelings are incommunicable.

Now emotions typically have physical effects too and it is likely that people with similar bodies have some sort of qualia you can reference using the experiences that are associated with them “I feel cold” “I feel weak” “my body feels heavy” etc. Or maybe someone already can predict that they’d feel a specific qualia if they went through what you describe, but that’s never guaranteed.

Unfortunately you don’t have the option of verbal communication with a cat, but you do have physical effects. Furthermore, emotions arise from experiences yes? Remember how you can assume someone has a qualia for cold because they’re human and you’re human so if you experience a qualia corresponding to cold then likely so do they?

Well ennui is listlessness caused by lack of stimuli yes? We most likely feel it because we’re “predators” and have the desire for stimuli and engagement. The same can be said of cats. Ergo, it is entirely possible they could feel an emotion corresponding to it just like us. I would be more surprised if most animals did not feel boredom.
