Video Description:

Donald Trump says he'll be "very firm" with Benjamin Netanyahu on ending the war in Gaza when the Israeli Prime Minister visits the White House on Monday.

He's pressed Hamas to take the deal, threatening 'it will only get worse' if they don't - and, with Iran weakened following Trump's so-called 'daddy diplomacy', the terror group has indicated it's open to a ceasefire. Israel will want the remaining hostages released, but so far Netanyahu has only said: “There will be no Hamas”. So, what is going to break the deadlock?

Piers Morgan is joined by lawyer Alan Dershowitz and secretary general of the Palestinian National Initiative, Mustafa Barghouti.

Piers then speaks to Leigh Evans, the nurse from Wales who went viral after a video was posted of him begging to Egyptian police to get into Gaza and British commentator Owen Jones, who is left red-faced about his view on Bob Vylan after Piers shows him newfound footage of the rapper on stage...

Generated Summary:

Main Topic:

The video discusses Donald Trump's proposed ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, the complexities surrounding the conflict, and a debate on the actions of the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces).

Key Points:

  • Trump's Ceasefire Proposal: Donald Trump announced a potential 60-day ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, with Qatar and Egypt mediating. Israel has accepted necessary conditions to finalize the deal, but Hamas has not yet accepted or rejected it.
  • Conflicting Perspectives: Alan Dershowitz argues that Hamas has historically rejected peace deals and that the ball is in their court. Mustafa Barguti counters that Israel hasn't fully accepted the deal and is the main obstacle to peace, citing ongoing occupation and discriminatory laws.
  • Two-State Solution Debate: The discussion explores the viability of a two-state solution, with accusations that both Palestinian leaders and Benjamin Netanyahu have hindered progress.
  • Allegations and Accusations: The debate becomes heated, with accusations of lying, impoliteness, and defending terrorists. Mustafa Barguti accuses Alan Dershowitz of defending "terrorist policies" and being a "terrorist" himself, which is strongly refuted.
  • IDF Actions and Civilian Casualties: The discussion covers the high number of civilian casualties in Gaza, with claims that Israel is disproportionately targeting civilians and destroying hospitals. Counterarguments suggest Hamas uses civilians as human shields.
  • "Death to the IDF" Controversy: The video features an interview with Lee Evans, a nurse who chanted "death to the IDF." The interviewer challenges Evans on whether this incites violence against individual soldiers, while Evans argues he is referring to the institution of the IDF.

Highlights:

  • Clash of Opinions: The heated exchange between Alan Dershowitz and Mustafa Barguti, marked by interruptions and personal attacks.
  • "Death to the IDF" Debate: The discussion surrounding the meaning and implications of chanting "death to the IDF," raising questions about freedom of speech and incitement to violence.
  • Disproportionate Response: The question of whether Israel's response in Gaza has been disproportionate to the events of October 7th.
  • The Role of Hamas: The role of Hamas in the conflict and whether they are willing to accept a peace deal.
  • The Two-State Solution: The viability of a two-state solution and whether both sides are genuinely committed to it.

B-Sides and Rarities | 2007 compilation album by Cake

B-Sides and Rarities is a rarities compilation album by Cake, an alternative rock band from Sacramento, California. It features several cover songs from the 2004 bonus disc Extra Value and the 2005 Wheels EP, including Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and Barry White's "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up." Originally, Columbia Records requested the band to release a greatest hits compilation, but the band promptly refused. During the legal fall-out, Cake formed its own record label, Upbeat Records, and released B-Sides and Rarities A limited edition version of the album features a bonus track, a live version of "War Pigs" featuring Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips. It also features a scratch and sniff cover with "five different CD cover/scent variations."^[[1] Wiki]

Just out of curiosity, what’s the preferred place to link to with songs on here?

YT links, but post what you prefer!

The Fumes were playing their first gig in years earlier in the year, but it was in Northern NSW at a local pub and about 250km each way for me. I regret not going to the gig, but I don’t regret not driving that far for it.

Wow. You might have to plan it as a mini-vacation trip so as to enjoy the event if the occasion arises or until they have a gig closer to your area.

Some bands are very limited in their tours, so if possible, we have to go to their closest gig.

As the opening track of the influential Black Sabbath album, Paranoid, “War Pigs” was originally titled “Walpurgis.” Walpurgis Night takes place on the 30th April to mark the eve of the feast day of Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century English missionary to the Frankish Empire. It is also believed to be the night of a witches’ meeting or sabbath. The instrumental outro is entitled, “Luke’s Wall.” It is one of the most-covered songs in history and is frequently ranked among the greatest rock songs of all time.

The song talks about war and—like the hippies—Black Sabbath was totally against it, specifically the Vietnam War (occurring at the time), and although Geezer Butler has stated that:

"['War Pigs' is] totally against the Vietnam War, about how these rich politicians and rich people start all the wars for their benefit and get all the poor people to die for them."

And in an interview with Mojo in 2017:

"Britain was on the verge of being brought into it, there was protests in the street, all kinds of anti-Vietnam things going on. War is the real Satanism. Politicians are the real Satanists. That’s what I was trying to say."

Ozzy Osbourne has said that:

"[The group] knew nothing about Vietnam. It’s just an anti-war song."^[[1] https://genius.com/Black-sabbath-war-pigs-lyrics]

“Children’s Story,” the second single released from The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, is the peak of Slick Rick’s storytelling in the form of a classic cautionary tale for children. He tells the story of two kids who decide to start robbing people. One of the kids becomes addicted and can’t stop. One day he robs an undercover detective. After a long chase with the cops, he is shot dead.

In Check the Technique, Slick Rick talked about “Children’s Story”:

We tried to make it a visual picture, especially with the ending. The ‘Knock 'em out the box, Rick,’ was like the climax, the big party part. We did the overlapping vocals because we wanted to keep the effect that was on [Doug E. Fresh’s] "The Show." I saw that scene in real life, so I just put it on paper and added a little fiction to make it more interesting. I didn’t see the people get shot, but I saw the people go to jail and ruin their whole life.

“Children’s Story” peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart. The song’s concept has been covered by several artists and a number of lines have been sampled, mainly “Once upon a time not long ago” and “Knock ‘em out the box.” “Children’s Story” ranked at #61 on VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs.^[[1] https://genius.com/Slick-rick-childrens-story-lyrics]

“Smack You” is a no holds barred diss track aimed at Suge Knight with the occasional shot at Ja Rule. The clapback starts with a short but powerful sample of 2Pac’s “Bomb First (My Second Reply),” accusing Suge for the murder of Pac and Biggie.

Eminem’s Recent Song Leaks Were Condemned By The Rapper’s Spokesman

[Aaron Williams, Hip-Hop Editor | 01/15/25]

Earlier this week, social media lit up with buzz about the leak of a 20-year-old Eminem diss track against Ja Rule and Suge Knight, “Smack You,” along with a handful of other demos. However, in a response from Eminem’s longtime spokesperson, Interscope Publicity Chief Dennis Dennehy, it sounds like Em is more frustrated by the leaks than enthused by their reception.

In a statement to XXL, Dennehy wrote, “These leaked songs were studio efforts never meant for public consumption… demos, experiments and ideas that are dated and not relevant so many years later. The latest in a line of unfinished material released against artists’ will and without their permission.”

Fans were excited at the prospect of “new” music from the rap veteran, and especially by the prospect of more examples of his battle prowess, since it’s such a big part of his musical legacy. The “Smack You” demo appears to be from around 2003, when Eminem had inherited his protégé 50 Cent’s ongoing feud with fellow Queens native Ja Rule. The track also makes repeated mentions of Death Row founder Suge Knight and his alleged shady dealings (no pun intended) with his former artist Dr. Dre — who was Em’s mentor and primary producer at the time of the feud.

Eminem even goes so far as insinuating that Suge had Tupac killed — a longstanding theory in the hip-hop community — to increase the value of his catalog. “Knowing who did it, but still nobody admits it / But if I get killed for this shit, I know who did it,” he raps.^[[1] https://uproxx.com/music/eminem-responds-smack-you-song-leaks/]

Generated Summary:

Main Topic:

The video discusses how the shift from a worker-centric society to a consumer-centric society, driven by the "revolt of the elite," has led to a new form of "slavery" where individuals are trapped in a cycle of competition and debt, ultimately serving the interests of the wealthy.

Key Points:

  • Shift from Worker to Consumer: After World War II, societies focused on the worker, leading to better conditions and social programs. However, in the 1980s, a shift occurred towards prioritizing money and the elite, transitioning the focus to the "consumer."
  • Revolt of the Elite: The elite wanted to move away from egalitarianism and consolidate power and wealth. This led to policies like neoliberalism and free-market capitalism.
  • Consumerism as Competition: Consumerism fosters competition for prestige and status, leading to individualization and a lack of solidarity.
  • Economic Logic: Consumerism promotes an "economic logic" where everything is viewed through the lens of capital and monetary value.
  • Perfection of Slavery: Consumerism is presented as a perfected form of slavery because individuals are unaware of their enslavement and willingly participate in the system, making rebellion unlikely.
  • End of History: Consumerism is seen as the end of history because it achieves what the elites want and the masses are unwilling and unable to protest and rebel.

Highlights:

  • The speaker uses the example of giving everyone in a school $1 million to illustrate how consumerism leads to competition, debt, and animosity.
  • The speaker contrasts the purpose of education in a worker-centric society (to learn and think critically) with its purpose in a consumer-centric society (to get a good job and buy things).
  • The speaker emphasizes that consumerism is a system where people are "brainwashed" into believing it's the only way to behave and think.

Putin is making it clear to NATO that Moscow has no plans to back down from its goals in Ukraine, as the Russian president held calls with Trump and Macron this week to discuss everything from the ongoing proxy war, to tensions in the Middle East.

International Relations and Security Analyst Mark Sleboda noted that while the U.S. may be halting some weapons and ammunitions shipments that were set for Ukraine, due to the Pentagon’s concerns about weapons stockpiles, that doesn’t change the fact the U.S. is continuing its support for the proxy war against Russia in other ways, as it also juggles support for Israel and plans for war against China.

Generated Summary:

Main Topic: Analysis of recent phone calls between world leaders (Trump, Putin, Macron) regarding the war in Ukraine, the US halting some weapons shipments to Ukraine, and the broader geopolitical implications, including the US focus on China and the Middle East.

Key Points:

  • Phone Calls: Trump and Putin had their sixth phone call of Trump's second term, following a call between Macron and Putin. Discussions covered Ukraine and Middle East tensions.
  • US Halting Weapon Shipments: The US has halted some weapons and ammunition shipments to Ukraine due to concerns about its own stockpiles and the need to focus on other priorities like China and the Middle East (Israel). Patriot missiles and 155mm artillery shells are specifically mentioned.
  • European Panic: Europeans are panicking as the US tries to "burden share" and focus on China, leaving them to deal with Ukraine.
  • NATO Summit: The recent NATO summit involved European leaders seemingly trying to appease Trump, but there was no significant discussion or pledges of increased aid specifically for Ukraine. The 5% defense spending pledge is considered unrealistic.
  • Russia's Stance: Russia is continuing its military operations in Ukraine, including drone and missile attacks, and advancing in regions like Lugansk and potentially Sunumi. Putin is unlikely to back down from Russia's goals.
  • Sunumi Region: While Western media highlights a potential Russian advance on Sunumi, the analyst suggests the situation is more nuanced. Russia is exploiting Ukrainian troop movements and shortages.
  • War of Attrition: Russia is employing a war of attrition strategy, exploiting weaknesses in Ukrainian defenses and logistics.

Highlights:

  • The US is overstretched and wants to shift the burden of the Ukraine conflict to Europe.
  • Europeans are trying to appease Trump through "shameless syncopency."
  • Russia is continuing its military objectives in Ukraine despite diplomatic talks.
  • The situation in the Sunumi region is being portrayed differently in Western media compared to the reality on the ground.
  • Russia's manpower and logistical advantages are key to its war of attrition strategy.

Carl Zha talks to Dr David Oualaalou of ‪@geopoliticaltrends‬ about the possibility of Iran acquiring J10c fighter jet and HQ air defense systems from China, in the aftermath of Iran Israel ceasefire and in the light of Chinese weapon systems performance in the recent India Pakistan conflict, esp with Pakistani J10c shooting down India Air Force's Rafale jets

Generated Summary:

  • Main Topic: The potential acquisition of Chinese J10C fighter jets and air defense systems by Iran, and the broader implications for regional power dynamics.

  • Key Points:

    • Iran is seeking to upgrade its air defense and air force capabilities, especially after recent events exposed weaknesses.
    • Iran is looking to fast-track weapon deliveries from Russia (S300, S400, SU35), but deliveries have been delayed, possibly due to the Ukraine conflict.
    • Iran's defense minister visited China, leading to talks about acquiring J10C fighter jets and defense systems.
    • J10Cs are seen as a cost-effective solution for Iran to counter Israeli F-16s.
    • China faces less diplomatic constraints than Russia in supplying weapons to Iran, especially given US arms sales to Taiwan.
    • China no longer relies on Israel for access to Western military technology.
    • Other Middle Eastern countries, like Egypt, are also considering Chinese aircraft like the J10C and J35.
    • Iran has been restrained in its response to Israel, avoiding actions that would trigger a decisive US intervention.
    • The conflict is costing the Israeli economy billions of dollars.
  • Highlights:

    • The possibility of an Iranian J35 shooting down an Israeli F-35 is presented as a potentially significant event.
    • The discussion emphasizes the shift in regional dynamics, with Iran's actions potentially altering the US-Israeli partnership.
    • Iran's restraint in targeting critical Israeli infrastructure (desalination plants, nuclear facilities) to avoid triggering a full-scale US response is highlighted.
    • The US's industrial capacity limitations are mentioned as a factor affecting its ability to resupply allies like Israel.

Main Topic: The video analyzes Donald Trump's shift from advocating for cuts to the Pentagon budget to ultimately increasing military spending, benefiting defense contractors.

Key Points:

  • Trump's Initial Stance: Trump initially expressed a desire to cut the Pentagon budget, aligning with MAGA's criticism of the military-industrial complex. He even suggested cutting it in half if a deal could be reached with China and Russia.
  • Doge's Potential Cuts: There was an expectation that Doge (Elon Musk's team) would target the Pentagon for cost cuts, potentially reducing the budget by 8%.
  • Reversal and Budget Increase: Despite initial plans for cuts, Trump ultimately approved a budget that significantly increased military spending, exceeding $1 trillion.
  • Beneficiaries: Defense contractors like Palantir, Rathon (now RTX), Lockheed Martin, and L3 Harris are highlighted as major beneficiaries of the increased spending. Palantir, in particular, is noted for its growing defense contracts and integration with the US government.
  • Golden Dome Missile Defense System: Trump proposed a massive missile defense system called the "Golden Dome," further boosting defense stocks.
  • Impact on Healthcare: The video claims that the proposed budget could lead to 11.8 million more uninsured people, negatively impacting the working class.

Highlights:

  • Trump's apparent contradiction between his initial stance on military spending and his later actions.
  • The significant financial gains for defense contractors as a result of increased military spending.
  • The potential negative consequences of the budget on healthcare access for the working class.

Main Topic: The increasing integration of Big Tech companies with the US government and military, specifically focusing on the commissioning of tech executives into the Army Reserve.

Key Points:

  • Tech Execs Joining the Army: Executives from Meta, OpenAI, and Palantir are joining the US Army Reserve as part of a new "Innovation Corps" (Detachment 2011) to bring tech upgrades to the military.
  • Motivations: The tech executives cite patriotism and a desire to equip the military for conflicts with high-tech adversaries like China. The speaker suggests the tech sector will also profit from this arrangement.
  • Fascism Analogy: The speaker draws a parallel to fascism, where there is no separation between the public and private sectors, and corporations and the government work together for the same goals.
  • Debunking the "Aversion" Myth: The speaker refutes the idea that Silicon Valley was previously averse to working with the military, citing examples like the Snowden revelations and existing contracts between tech companies and intelligence agencies (CIA, NSA).
  • Historical Context: The speaker references John Poindexter and Palantir's origins, highlighting the long-standing relationship between Silicon Valley and the intelligence community.
  • Alarming Language: The speaker finds the language used by the tech executives about uniting American innovation with the military's mission to be alarming, echoing the core tenet of fascism.
  • Eisenhower's Warning: The speaker invokes Dwight Eisenhower's warning about the militarization of American life, suggesting that this integration is a realization of that warning on a grander scale.

Highlights:

  • The commissioning of tech executives into the Army Reserve is presented as a significant development, symbolizing the deepening ties between Big Tech and the US military.
  • The speaker emphasizes the potential dangers of this integration, drawing parallels to fascism and raising concerns about the erosion of the separation between corporate and state power.
  • The historical context provided challenges the narrative of a recent shift in Silicon Valley's relationship with the military, revealing a long history of cooperation.

"Rock Co.Kane Flow," featuring MF DOOM, is a highlight from De La Soul's 2004 album, The Grind Date. The track showcases the group's signature clever lyrics and innovative production, alongside MF DOOM's inimitable style.

Produced by Jake One, the song is a sharp critique of mainstream hip-hop, emphasizing De La Soul and DOOM's commitment to lyrical integrity over industry trends.

The Grind Date itself is celebrated for its lean sound, featuring production from J Dilla, Madlib, and 9th Wonder, and guest appearances from artists like Ghostface Killah, Carl Thomas, and Common.

De La Soul Get Animated Foir 'Rock Co.Kane Flow' Video [07-03-2025 | antimusic.com]

(Jensen) Platinum-selling, GRAMMY Award-winning hip-hop icons De La Soul today release the brand-new visual for "Rock Co.Kane Flow" catapulting viewers into a bold, otherworldly universe where lyrical warfare meets sci-fi action.

In this reimagined, animated world, created by Matt Hutchings of Matt Hutchings Films, De La Soul members Posdnuos, Maseo, Trugoy The Dove and MF DOOM take on the roles of unstoppable superheroes, rising up to battle an alien invasion that symbolizes other MCs-those who lack the lyrical depth, authenticity, resilience, originality, and creative chemistry that De La and DOOM embody.

What unfolds is a visually striking battle of worlds: iconic hip-hop artistry versus hollow imitation. The superheroes repel the invasion with skill and spirit, ultimately emerging victorious and reaffirming their place in hip-hop's pantheon.

Just like the track itself, which can be found on the 20th anniversary re-release of the group's seminal album The Grind Date (BMG), the video is a powerful statement-celebrating collaboration, creative integrity, and unmatched lyrical mastery. It's not just a fight scene-it's a declaration: these superheroes of sound can't be touched.

"With this project, we knew we wanted to create something special. Posdnuos had a clear vision of the vibe and comedic tone of the video, looking to recreate the group's look during The Grind Date's release back in 2004 (with a wrestling superhero twist)," says Hutchings. "We knew we didn't want to go down the road of AI and Deepfaking, instead opting to create fully animated versions of all the characters, no small undertaking. We took influence from various superhero films and media, and drew upon hours of classic wrestling footage for reference. After months of animating, rendering and complex visual effects work, we were finally able to bring De La Soul & MF DOOM to the big screen just as they were in 2004."

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of De La Soul's seventh studio album, The Grind Date, BMG released a special package of the original album on vinyl and CD including bonus tracks and instrumental versions.

The Grind Date, originally released in 2004, showcases the groups signature blend of clever lyrics, innovative production, and a mix of playful and introspective themes including a plethora of featured artists such as MF DOOM, Ghostface Killah, Carl Thomas and Common.^[[1] https://www.antimusic.com/p/25/0703de_la_soul_get_animated_foir_rock_cokane_flow_video.shtml]
