According to reports (source 1, source 2 and source 3) it at least got worse in regard of hate speech and racial slurs since Musk's takeover

What I love about mastodon is that you can follow Hashtags. It's an easy way to discover accounts which post about topics you are interested in.

The explore tab is also very nice to find new interesting accounts.
