Ok so I did some testing, from the wall it’s about 7 watts idle. I wonder where that extra 5 is coming from, oh well still pretty good!

Sleeping it’s less than 1 watt, so I might see if I can let it sleep at night somehow

I have a meter I could test with if I wanted, although I’m not sure why iStat would lie

Sure! It’s an M2 MacMini, 16gb ram 512gb ssd. I monitor its power usage with iStat menus 6

True, I’m using a M2 Mac mini. Used to use a raspberry pi

Also the iPad Pro has 4 speakers and the air has 2, if you care about internal speakers the pro is much better

Just curious, why do you turn it off at night? Mine only uses ~2 watts when idling

Edit; more like 7 watts but still pretty good

YouTube as a content deliverer is going to care more about using less bandwidth than the devices battery, so if the phone can play it, you bet your ass YouTube will send it.

Anyone else sick of people posting in “Apple enthusiast” that start with I am not actively using any Apple products and then launches into a negative spiral?

This is not the sub for you. Go complain in a general tech sub, this is for people deep in the ecosystem not people looking in from the outside

Software decoding video of any kind on a phone is a terrible idea, mostly for battery reasons. AV1 should only be available to hardware decode capable chips unless you’re on a desktop or something like that.
