This is awesome, and done by some really talented kids who are clearly smart motivated and willing to put in the work to get this project out the door.

Now imagine if the resources to do this kind of work as well as the background education and things like food security and economic stability were given to kids outside of an exclusive private boarding school? We'd empower some of the most imaginative of us to accomplish so many more amazing things.

So, it seems like the secret was the opposition parties actually campaigning on doing things the voters liked and addressing their concerns instead of belittling them. I agree, I think US politicians should also try actually appealing to disaffected voters to get them to vote against tyranny instead of lecturing them.

In this case yes, because transportation workers have special protections, but it can just as easily apply to strip transportation workers of rights given to bakery workers in different circumstances.

I think it's kind of neutral.

The housing market is fucked, economic mobility is fucked, the climate is fucked. They've already lost to the man, what else do they have to lose?

If we don't at least pretend to be willing to wield our voting power to influence our govt, we might as well give up and accept we live in an oligarchy.

Sometimes just the threat of violence is enough to get people to act. Biden has already changed his administrations public stance and rhetoric towards Israel at merely the risk of losing votes. Ideally it would have been because of the loss of human lives, but beggars can't be choosers.

This is literally what the UN secretary general was referring to when he said the Hamas attacks didn't happen in a vacuum. I don't think the attacks were justified or even effective but it wasn't some random act, the growth of Hamas comes from Israeli government backed oppression of Palestinians which itself comes after failed peace talks so on and so forth until the birth of civilization (though you could argue until the late 1940s).

A government using war to revoke civil liberties and oppress their citizens? Color me surprised.

They've been living under an Israeli siege for over a decade and had a mature enough intelligence apparatus to plan a highly coordinated assault while living in a surveillance state.. If you don't think this wasn't a calculated informed attack you've got your head up your ass.

I'm not condoning indiscriminate killing and rape of civilians and taking hostages, I also don't condone the inhumane siege of Gaza that has been happening for decades. 50% of Gaza is under 18. That's not because they're popping out kids, its because you just don't survive that long in that kind of environment, those are also deaths. Not graphic ones that make headlines, but lives were still lost. Its incredibly hypocritical to assume Israel's shit don't stink in this situation either.

I'm also queasy when I read the coverage of the recent attacks by Hamas, I also haven't been living in a police state. Not saying this is the most effective way that they can achieve their objectives, but I can understand how someone growing up seeing violence, sickness and malnutrition for completely preventable reasons dehumanizes the people they see as being the cause of their situation and join or support an organization like Hamas.

If you are comfortable with your understanding of the situation and arguing for whichever side you choose to support instead of just refusing to hear anything to the contrary then support whoever you want.

Just know this isn't like a sports team where there's only superficial differences. It's also ok to say I'm not informed enough to take one side or the other, or maybe only lean one way. You can point to unethical behavior on both sides, but I think it's not unreasonable for people to hold one side more at blame than the other. Look into the history of the region and the ongoing discussion.

Spoilers for anyone who hasn't gotten up to chapter 967 in the mangaWith regards to the iconic Roger Laughing panel when he gets to Laugh Tale, I think the reason Roger laughed when he got to Laugh Tale is because Joy Boy intended his treasure for someone who would live on and lead the world to a new future by overthrowing the World Government.

This would have been extremely ironic, since Roger was terminally ill and had just spent the final days of his life seeking a treasure that was meant for someone else, who would live long enough to be able to change the world.

I think that positions Luffy in a really interesting spot because he has been shedding his life span throughout the manga, like in Impel Down. It doesn't feel like a very Luffy thing to not take the one piece just because he doesn't have very long to live. I wonder if he would take whatever is on laugh tale and through sheer will power force the world to change before dying.

I imagine any time a given server's quality drops, people will just move to another one. I had login issues for a few days on lemmy.world and started using lemmy.ml.

I think its a good thing, healthy for the ecosystem that there's not only redundancy where one site having a moment doesn't kill everyone's ability to use lemmy, and also provides a clear incentive for individual servers to provide good service.
