Also yes, I believe government should screen people. Sorry if you have a violent passed or it is shown that you as an individual would be a threat to the incoming country, that country should refuse entry. I do believe immigration can have a positive effect on a country, if you screen and take individuals that will prove to be a contributing member, contribute to taxes and not be a drain but a net benefit it can work very well.

Yeah I really do hope people will hold their elected government official in charge to account. Agreed that just because the mayor thought it might seem Islamophobic he just brushed off the sexual assault incident and said kids will be kids, oopsie, fucking coward. Hope there is consequences and enforcement of rule of law.

But I do not think it is an issue of assimilation, I am a minority in my own country with my own very rich and vibrant culture. I do not fucking need to assimilate and I will not be suppressed by the majority to assimilate. But I do believe you can criticise and condemn vile cultures and traditions, even my own is regularly criticised. Cultures with traditions like genital mutilation like circumcision or labia and clitoris removal of kids, if it's not a medical requirement then leave the kids the fuck alone, don't care if it is your culture, let them mature to a consenting age and then they can choose for themselves. Or suppression of women to below a man or as a sexual object, fuck of if your book says this person needs to be subjected by this person.

But sorry I am ranting in a conservative group, I am libertarian leaning so I assume my views are not aligned with everyone's here, but believe we can all talk common sense

Yeah there are no winners here, not the mayor of being ignorant and not denouncing inappropriate behaviour, not the men sexually assaulting the women and finally the writer who's xenophobia and intolerance leads to a biased outlook.

Nothing wrong with condemnation of discrimination of unacceptable practices, but at the same time is it all Syrian men, all of them and is it impossible for German men for example, to sexually assault underage women.

I feel it is not the immutable characteristics that condemned the men, such as their nationality, race or gender, but rather their Outlook and practices that see women as lower status that can be objectified as the true cause. Even men of other nationality, race and gender for example white German male believing the same and conducting the same vile acts should be condemned

I can give examples, Cyberpunk 2077 being a great example, great studio with great past work, releasing something before they had time to make the product great. Remember all the Superman Trailers have just one goal, trying to convince you to get your butt in the seat come opening day. For the mega fan and the excited please do go the opening day. But us casual fans should not mindlessly go the first chance we get. Wait and see the reviews, spoiler free of course, after opening weekend to make sure you are informed before letting go of your hard earned money

Yeah let's hold until the dust has started to settle. I am excited but not naive to false claims of exceptionalism to boost the bottom line of a studio

I always wondered how it feels, I generally abstain from drugs, but cocaine always seemed like fun. But seeing how easily I got hooked to vaping and then struggled but did quit my habit I do not want to try something I think will be more addicting

I loved the subversion, I felt Gosling and Crowe had excellent chemistry. Sad the movie did not get the financial success then, felt if it released now it would have been a major hit. Great buddy cop drama period piece

Yeah I don't see Deng as a hyper capitalist, and I do have issues with him, but when reading on China I saw this, and I only did light reading, like 2 or 3 web pages, so I was viewing this from my point of view, mostly identify as a Liberal in a classic sense. I could have missed some points and thank you for your opinions, I feel we should always try to not see everything through only our point of views. Like China is one of the greatest success stories where if I look at graphs on wiki since 1995-ish they have grown and uplifted the largest group of people from poverty to middle income. No one can deny the Chinese miracle.

I feel the biggest drift Deng Xiaoping basically enacted, that I believe, was to move away from the level of central state control Mao was enacting, why, I believe, some autonomy led to their success and stable growth.

[–] notaviking@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Well Mao really did fuck up, luckily successive presidents opened up their economies that led to mostly their great success

Can we agree we already engineered the climate to be 2°C hotter. Albeit stopping emissions has been a noble goal, unfortunately clearly that strategy is not working. We should still continue to try and achieve it, but why not admit it wasn't enough and we start geoengineering the atmosphere with Stratospheric Aerosol Injection. Yes it has its problems, yes it is not a long term solution, yes there are many unknowns. But saying we should just try harder with our current strategy, that we should double down even harder is madness defined. This is an easy achievable solution that will be beneficial in the short run. Unfortunately there is just too much benefit for companies and individuals to pollute now and make it the next generation's issue. Like I said we have already geoengineered the atmosphere to be hotter, let's replicate volcanos that inject particles into the atmosphere that lowers the temperature in the surrounding area.

Not everyone is going to agree and that is fine, but here is my two cents regarding future solutions.

Is there a better way to heat up my geyser that uses borehole water? The area I live in has no reliable water unless you drill a borehole. Every three months I change out my copper elements in my geyser. I am just asking since it is a pain in the butt

I was always on Linux since Varsity but two years ago when I bought a gaming Laptop, it had Windows 11 on and worked great. I thought I would give it a chance and it was great especially for gaming. Luckily a lot of the open source software I was used to were available on windows. I also liked some of the Linux tools like the cmd tools being adopted by windows.

But yesterday, after two years of seeing issues pile up and the system degrading, I thought how is the grass back on the other side, since I am sick of this shit. Installed my go to distro, Mint, and god what a fucking idiot I feel like. Even if Windows improved since I used it back from 8, but how much has Linux improved in these last two years, like eons compared to windows. My system is smooth and fast, hell my Cyberpunk 2077 runs amazing, even better and less crashing with nothing more than install and no other settings from steam. Chef's kiss
